They say that one trick to keeping your New Year's resolution is to stay accountable by telling your friends and family about your goals. So, tell me -- do you have a New Year's resolution? If so, what is it?
I hope everyone had a great holiday season!

@Rubbs: Makes sense to me! No need to start a new year feeling like you've already failed something! ;)
to do what makes me happy not what others tell me to do, so I moved in with my fiance.
@Gemstone: lol...that's so funny, that's totally me when i try to work...i have this ab machine thingy that i use as a reclyner to watch TV lol.....my only resolution, if you can call it that, is to become a mother:)
My resolution was to take my vitamins everyday and eat more veggies! I don't think DH and I can get to the 5-a-day (that's a lot!), but I can do 4 a day for sure.
@jaytea1: Good for you!
@MrsR4ever: Hahaha! Love it! And sounds like a great resolution to me. ;)
@mrshunnybunches: I think you're much more likely to stick to it if it's a reasonable goal -- which yours is! Good luck. :)
Sure I did - my new years resolution is to get married. That way I might actually keep my resolution for once :)
I don't make resolutions, I make goals but maybe they are the same thing. My goal is to be happy, healthy and blessed.
My goal is to cancel my gym membership and stop throwing money away! :)
I made a bunch...I can't even remember them all now. I remember...get lost in myself at least 1x a week, stick up for myself, fall in love every day, wear fun clothes, use all my fun smelling lotions and perfumes etc, and to get married :) Haha...goin for a take care of myself theme this year!
To drink more water and less soda. I currently drink a 12 pk. per day!
@Gemstone: My secret one was to get engaged (new it was coming before Feb) and turns out he proposed on New Years Eve! Done before 2013 even kicked in ;)
My "official" one was to not get worked up over small issues, which I imagine will be quite hard wedding planning, but also a really good one for this year :)
Last year it was to wear heels 2 - 3 times a week and I did that one, which was awesome, made me feel like I was getting good use out of my extensive shoe collection :D
Mine is to become a morning person. I hate waking up every morning. LOL I always want to sleep in and hit my snooze button about 10 times before I actually wake up. I'm a min or two late to work most days. I have to figure out what works for me. I want to eventually get to the point where I'm waking up early on the weekends, because my body is use to it. So far, I have to say I haven't been very good with my resolution, but I'm hoping thats because its been a short work week. lol I know I know..Excuses...excuses!!!! lol
I made a few.
- Get back into keeping a journal
- Turn our study into a functional space (it's full of leftover wedding items and other random stuff)
- Find a new job
- Update my website (actually rebuild - it's still my grad school site)
I don't like the term resolution, I like to this of them as goals.
A friend and I want to read an hour a week now that we have found free Kindle books.
I also would like to find a new job and get back into exercise.
I might start running in 5ks more frequently.
My most sucessful NY resolution was the year I bought a children's book every time I bought myself a book. Needless to say, I had lots of children's books to donate at the end of the year.
This year, I'm going to fill out the surveys they give you at the end of your receipts. Helps the store, helps the clerk and I might win some money or prizes!
@Kate0558: YAY! I hope you stick with that one. ;)
@javoho: I think you're right, that's there's a bit of a nuanced difference. Either way, love your goals. :)
@iheartnerds: Haha! You smart cookie!
@icetea: Those sound like some of the healthiest resolutions I've ever heard. :) Good for you!
@trueblue14: That's a great one! My husband was able to do that by substituting things like Crystal Light or those Mio water-enhanced things for soda. I don't drink a ton of soda, but I definitely am trying to drink more water, too!
@ParisM: Ahh, congratulations, girl! And my advice is to really try not to let the small stuff of wedding planning get to you. I learned after my wedding was said and done that the small stuff is NOT the stuff that you will remember or even care about on your wedding day. Have fun planning!
@Curly W: Meh, it's been tough for me to get back into the swing of things this week too. But what a great idea! I've forced myself to get up early to work out. Motivation being that I hate have to compete for machine at my apartment complex's tiny workout room, and if I go in the morning, I have them to myself. ;)
@LadyBear: Wow, those are all so productive! We have a study (our second bedroom, really) that houses our computers and then just random stuff. Great idea to turn it into a real, functional space. Good luck on the job hunt!
@MissAsB: Love it! So realistic. :) I've been pretty good about exercising lately, but not so much about running, ever since I had my that stress fracture a while back. But I've heard that one of the best ways to force yourself to prepare for a 5K is just to sign up for one. Then you're committed! Good luck!
@KoiKove: Oh my gosh, that children's book thing is so sweet! And what a fun one for this year -- you have to let me know if you do every win anything! ;)
Mr. D and I make four goals every year! They are always specific too: mind, body, soul, and bank.
Body: Lose 50 pounds
Mind: Read 30 of the remaining 60 I have left on the BBC 100 great reads list.
Soul: Read a new bible verse everyday.
Bank: Mr. D and I set this together. We want to put $5,000 in our savings account this year.
workout!!! gotta get ready for my strapless dress & st.lucia honeymoon!
Mine is to find a job, eat remotely healthier (even though I am still going to enjoy yummy food a lot) and get married!
@angiemk47: congratulations! you are going to look great and have fun
My goals are to get into wedding day shape by practicing yoga more often and training for my half marathon in may as well as drinking more water and staying positive! :)
this year I resolve to:
- send out more thank you notes
- climb half dome
- hike 400 miles
I've vowed to waste less time on the internet and keep in better touch with out of town friends. I've been working on the first one by setting focus time goals and then starting my phone stopwatch. When I reach the time I promised to focus for (usually its like, "I'm going to work for 2 hours on writing this proposal") then I can take a 10 min break, read blogs, make a snack etc, but until then its FOCUS on that one thing. Its working pretty well so far. And as for the second goal, I'm AWFUL at calling people on the phone, but I'm making it my goal to call and have one 30min -1 hour conversation with an out of town friend once a week. :) I love new year's resolutions! Its such a great opportunity to better yourself!
We've decided to cut negative people out of our lives. When the wedding came, we really saw who was there for us and who weren't. Time to kick them to the curb! I have a separate goal of cutting down one of my student loans (my bar loan) in half by the end of the year!
NYE resolutions
1. Loose weight........I've been doing the south beach diet....hard but seems to be working as my fiance told me today I look skinny. Also been doing intervals on the treadmill.
2. Work on skincare. I am horrible sometimes about washing my face. So this year I will be working on that.
3. Try to be a little more easy going......eek! this one will be hard!!!
I didn't make any goals like fitness, diet, etc.
Just to take myself a little less seriously and not stress too much over the wedding plans. That's all I want for myself and FI.
To be better at taking my vitamins and making work snacks for my husband and I.
Same resolution for the whole home - to lose weight. I've been trying to for a long time now, DH put on some pounds last year when he broke his foot, and wants to shed those, and we even found out our cat is a little overweight. Healthier household for 2013!
Mine are mostly fitness related:
I want to complete 3 half marathons this year. I did 1 in 2011, 2 in 2012, so seems like 3 this year is in order.
I also want to be able to complete 50 push-ups in a row (the regular kind, not on my knees).
I'd also like to be able to do headstand into crow pose back into headstand. I can do each separately, but not in that sequence.
Oh and to juice at least 4 times a week.
To stop being so stubborn about my health and going to the doctor's about certain things. I've been in a great deal of pain lately, but I keep on going instead of resting.
I got engaged on 12/29/12 so my New Years resolution is to plan a kick ass wedding! Looking forward to all of the bees tips and advice to help me through it!
