For my birthday this year I got a BIG surprise 🙂
I came out of my bedroom in the morning and saw a nice bag with tissue paper from our jewelry store sitting on the bar in our kitchen. I pulled out a little box expecting to find a pretty little right hand ring. When I opened it, there was a ring made out of folded paper sitting in the little box. At first I was confused thinking, “is this a joke?”… But after my husband not-so-subtly hinted at me that it needed to be unfolded, the real surprise came. The little folded paper ring was actually a note. On the inside it said, “this coupon is good for one engagement ring upgrade. NOW.” I was soooo excited! I made a promise to him a while ago that I would never change my ring again unless it was his idea. He went and conspired with my friends who work at the jewelry store and they helped him plan it all out. This marks the first year he’s ever been able to get away with surprising me, haha.
Needless to say, I was in the jewelry store an hour later trading in my old set and picking out new stuff. My best friend was here visiting from across the country, so I got to do the whole thing with her. It was so fun. (Plus my husband has no interest in ever going to the jewelry store with me. Just how I like it haha.) Anyway, here are the pics/stats of my new ring!
Center stone info:
2.02 carat GIA certified princess cut
7.18 x 6.92 x 5.02 mm
Very good cut
Ring size 5.5
The setting is a Scott Kay piece and it is in unplated white gold.
P.S. Share any romantic surprise stories between you and your SO!! And feel free to post pics 🙂

@blondemotives: That is so beautiful on you!
If I may ask, what is your ring size? The proportions on your finger are wonderful.

@blondemotives: oh no did you get rid of your beautiful asscher?? 🙁

Thank you guys! I love it!
@chocolatevodka: My ring size is 5.5. And thank you! I love the proportions too.
@wrkbrk: I did get rid of my asscher. I don’t regret it at all. While I do appreciate asschers and think they are beautiful, I just never really felt like it was the right stone for me. I actually looked at larger asschers this time, but I just didn’t feel drawn to them. I have always been more of a “sparkly diamond” kind of girl, and asschers just don’t provide that for me. I am soooo beyond happy with my decision.
@letigre: here are a couple pics of the ring I traded in
The center stone on that one was 1.16 carats, H color, vs2 claraty, 5.83 x 5.79 mm
It was beautiful, but lacked the sparkle that a more faceted cut has. I love my new ring 1000 times more.

@blondemotives: I agree you need to go with your gut! Your new diamond is really pretty. I just had a majorcrush on your old one 😉 Then again I like hearts which most people do not, so I’m glad you love it now!

@wrkbrk: I’m totally with you on that haha. And thank you 🙂 I really did like the asscher, I just didn’t love it. I thought I would grow to love it eventually, but never really did. Honestly, the only reason I stayed away from princesses for so long is because of how popular they are. I always thought I wanted something different. But what can I say, I love them haha.
@GelaMac: haha seriously, I am lucky to have scored myself such a generous and pateint man. and thanks! 🙂

@blondemotives: Happy Birthday to you is right! Gorgeous ring!! Did you switch out your wedding band too? I can’t tell…they look very similar.
@pineapplez17: nope I didn’t switch the wedding band. both settings, new and old, are from the same Scott Kay collection; so that worked out really well.

@blondemotives: I thought it looked like the same ring, but with picture angles it was hard to be certain. That’s lucky that it goes perfectly with your new ring. It’s a stunning set 🙂
