hmmm ok what would be the first thing we need to do? This is a project we have and we're starting like, today, but have no idea what to do first?

    Are you refinishing them yourself?

I recently posted on my blog about our hardwood floor installation.

Here is the post about what we did:  http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/the-floors-are-in-pictures

@caszos:Thanks! And your floor looks good by the way!

Right now we have carpet all over the place. When DH bought his house, it was a new house and the contractors were charging too much for hardwood floors, so he went with carpet - figuring he'd change them later.

Now here we are, wanting our hardwood floors before babies come!

We actually went shopping to Home Depot today, and discussed our ideas of budget. I guess our first step is to figure out the look that we like (I think we have a good idea now, and the good thing is our taste was similar); and try to figure out how much it will cost.

We bought a book on flooring, to learn how to do it.. And we'll shop again in the next few weeks to see if we find something we like even more than what we found today. If not, I'll start to bargain hunt!

We ended up getting our floors from Lumber Liquidators.  It is an engineered hardwood and we have been really happy with it.

Here is another interesting thread/poll that I created.

The biggest extra expense in budget for us was the $0.50 extra per sq ft for the underlayment since it didn't come attached to our floor.  It was SUPER easy to lay down (it comes in rolls and you connect the seams with duct tape).  We had to buy a couple bottles of glue for like $6 per bottle.  We used like a bottle per 100 sq ft or so.  Also, we ended up replacing our baseboards which was totally worth it but again another extra expense.
