One idea I have is that you could use pastel shades for the house colours, like so:
I think it will be fine to use some of the more "jewel-tone" shades of the house colours (blue & green), but I agree that you probably want to use them sparingly.
I made a post with this link (http://www.businessinsider.com/photos-bay-area-couple-harry-potter-themed-wedding-2011-8?op=1 ) to some great classy HP themede inspiration.
Also, have you seen this site: http://www.buzzfeed.com/jpmoore/13-photos-from-awesome-harry-potter-themed-weddin
I thought immediately to channel Hedwig or the feeling of Fleur for th spring whimsical feel- maybe a light blue like the french girls had?
I also like the vintage trunks
I agree with mcklough think of fleur or even Hermione Yule Ball look would be great for a spring wedding.
I think you can still use those colors even if its a spring wedding... especially if its in the evening.
@RVG1010: I went to the Wizarding World 3 months before we got engaged and saw those! I forgot about them until you just posted that, it's a great idea! Thanks!
@mcklough: I think that's a great idea, it's not going to be too formal but I'll have to look up pictures of the Yule ball and and try to pull colors from that.
@emilygrace07: It will most likely be in the evening! I've been thinking about maybe taking a few of the jewel tones to keep the deep rich colors and using them as accents to keep everything from being to overwhelmingly pastel ... I'm not a huge pastel fan.
@Jenniphyr: Another thing I've been thinking about doing is maybe lightening the jewel-tones and altering them to be a little more "vintage"? IE lighten them and give them a smokey hue ... please tell me if I'm nuts and just grasping at straws here haha.
Everyone else thanks so much for your ideas everything is helping a lot :)
I'm a total Potterhead with a FI who appreciates the movies, yet doesn't share in my osessive fandom. (I've informed him that once we have kids, he HAS to read the books)
Anyways, I really wanted to have some sort of HP influence in my wedding and here is what I have come up with - There's a quote from Luna in Deathly Hallows at Bill and Fleurs wedding about how it's good luck to wear sun colors for a wedding...Although the clothes aren't really going to reflect this, the flowers will - I've told my florist that I want the colors of the flowers to look like a watercolor sunset. Maybe it's silly, but that's my special way of incorporating an HP influence involved in our big day.
I love all the links everyone has posted though! The creatively named signature cocktails are freaking awesome!
So... No inspiration for you at the moment as I'm on my phone. Just wanted to say I'm totally jealous of your theme. Fleur's dress is my dream dress. Cant wait to see how this turns out!
I am having Harry potter and marine Corp wedding. I have a million ideas just getting them to come reality is the hard part lol. You can put the sorting hat on the table with the place cards. I'm doing that and going to try to get dog tags for the actual place cards. Also having a hogwarts caslt ice sculpture hopefully made. The hall said he could pull off anything with ice lol. I'm also going to attempt to make may own centerpieces that have the house that each guest is in with the marine Corp crest somewhere on there. My save the dates are going to be the daily prophet held by an owl which I'm making myself. The daily prophet is gonna be the story of how we meet. That's all my main ideas as of now lol. If anyone has any other ideas or good sites to direct me to to have this Harry potter marine corps wedding that would be of great help. I'm also very new to this site and trying to figure out how it works.

Let me start off by saying that this is my first post on WeddingBee (or any site for that matter) so if I do it wrong, I apologize.
I had settled loosely on a whimsical feeling enchanted forest-type theme (real specific, eh?) through that I came to find that Harry Potter additions and accents (but mostly the look and feel of the world that JK Rowling and the creative teams from the movies envisioned and delivered) were just PERFECT for the feel that FI and I both wanted (I want whimsy, he wants it to look and feel like a library).
(Note: he actually had to read the books to gain my sisters blessing to propose HA!)
It was also PERFECT for my INTENDED fall wedding. However, my sister will be in Italy this fall and my brother will be in Afghanistan so I have to push it to Spring of 2013 ...
I have found a few bits of inspiration that I love but obviously the classic "Harry Potter colors" are too dark for most spring color themes.
This is my incredibly long-winded way of asking for HELP!!! I need help with not only inspiration ideas that aren't chincy, but also, of course, color suggestions for a HP inspired spring wedding! I am totally lost.
Any suggestions? It would certainly be helpful.
Here are a few things I've found thus far ...
I was going to post pictures, but I was having problems with that so here are links to the blogs/websites I found them on.
