Gosh there are many things to "do" down town Hartford, it just depends on the day. I wish I could help with something more substantial, but I haven't really gone out down town in two year (recently had a baby).
The Brew Ha Ha comedy club is very close to the Society Room, they have a bar there and etc.
Hi! I'm getting married right down the street from you at the Marquee on 1/12/13 and we're planning on having our rehearsal dinner at Dish and our "after party" at City Steam Brewery (where the Brew-Ha-Ha comedy club is located). There are plenty of places in Hartford for your guests to go to while staying for the weekend within walking distance of your venue. Asylum is the next street over from Pratt Street (where Society Room is located) and there's McKinnon's Pub, Trumbull Kitchen is on the corner, also right next to the Society Room is Vaughns Pub and on the same street is the bar Zula. Another place close by for rehersal dinner is Morton's Steakhouse...it's across the street near the Old State House. What hotel are you using? They should have pamphlets in the lobby for local "things to do" for your guests. Hope this helped, happy planning!
Thanks guys! I talked to McKinnon's Pub and they're willing to do half price appetizers and drink specials, so I'm leaning towards that right now. I'll have to look in to the other places you suggested too though! Just found my wedding dress the other day...it's starting to feel so real!! :)
What type of atmosphere are you going for?
1. More upscale/classy: Vito's by the Park, Max Downtown, Morton's Steakhouse or Peppercorns
2. More fun/bar style: Black Eyed Sallys, Tapas, Black Bear
As to activities, the Westfarms Mall is nearby, also the Mark Twain House, CT Science Museum, Brew haha comedy club.
Hope that helps!
City Steam Brewery is actually accross the street from the Society Room and they have private spaces available for a rehearsal dinner. They offer everything from a cocktail menu, to buffet, to plated options.
DISH which is also accross the street has a private space and will do a cocktail style menu if that's what you're interested in.
Agave, which is an upscale Mexican restaurant, also has a private space and lots of cost efficient options as well.
Good luck!
My FI and I are planning on The G. Fox Room as well for March 2013. How has your experience been with them so far? Do you mind me asking how much you paying for Dec? They quoted us $75 pp for a Sun.
Thanks!

Hi guys!
I'm getting married 12/2/12 at The Society Room of Hartford and while my parents don't live very far from Hartford, my fiance and I don't know the area at all! We're looking for some ideas for rehearsal dinner location and fun bars/restaurants/events for our guests to do during the weekend before our Sunday eve wedding. Any ideas???
