I just spent 10 days in Costa Rica in May and NONE of the hotels had anything but normal, private bathrooms. We stayed in a combination of places, from resort style to treehouse to boutique hotels and we loved them all. If you need any recommendations, we stayed at:
Cala Lodge in Monteverde
Treehouses Hotel in La Fortuna (in the Arenal area)
Poas Lodge by Volcan Poas
Si Como No by Manuel Antonio
Poas Lodge was the classic boutique hotel and even when I was there, I couldn't help but think how much it was a "honeymoon appropriate" hotel. The hotel looks totally non-descript from the outside, but the room we stayed in had this comfy king bed with beautiful decor and a reading nook that looked over the valley on the backside of the building. It's run by two South African men who seem to appreciate the little comforts in life, so they made us so welcome there.
Like I said, ALL of our hotels were awesome, and I'd stay in any of them for a honeymoon, and none of them had an odd bathroom set-up.
I believe both Mrs. Brooch and Mrs. Lox stayed there so you may want to check out their honeymoon recaps on the blog. You could probably ask them about the TP issue as well :-)
@baliahi1029: Thank you! We are planning on staying at the TreeHouse Hotel for two nights :) So, it's good news about the TP issue. The other one that we are thinking of is the Light of Dawn private hotel. And some cheap Catarana Eco Lodge.
@cafegirl: Thank you very much, I will message them!
This All Inclusive place was just awesome!

Definitly no bathroom problems. Only beautiful linens and tropical flower arrangements everywhere. They think of everything. Great tours, great waterfall pools, unlimted supplies of whatever you request. :0)
@happynluv: Thank you!!! We booked that place too, so I'm glad to hear that bathrooms are fine :) So, at least 2 out of 4 places we booked are going to be ok :)
Which tours would you recommend for that place?
I am in lovvee with that hotel. I found it about a year ago but cant bring myself to go because Id rather spend the money on a new environment, I've done the "stay in the jungle" thing. If you go, puh puh puh puh pleasseeee post pics.
stayed there for 4 nights and absolutely loved it. Yes the bathroom is seperated by glass doors, but you are going with your husband, i am sure he knows you use the bathroom.
and yes, you shouldn't put toilet paper in the toilet (most of CR is like this, their plumbing systems arent' the same as ours) it's not a huge deal really, there is a garbage bin with a lid and the maids change it daily.
This is such a beautiful resort, the food is amazing, the pool is awesome, the staff super welcoming. I say go, you will enjoy it and have an amazing honeymoon!
We are honeymooning in Costa Rica as well. We are staying at the new Westin Playa Conchal all-inclusive so I can use all the TP I want!! ;) I can't wait. I hope you have a wonderful trip@
Unfortunately we did not book that Oxygen Jungle Villa plae :( We left them a numerous voice mails and emails and they only responded 4-5 days later, By that time we already booked other places. Instead of the Oxygen place we are staying at Tiki Villas resort which is very similar to the Oxygen Jungle Villas. It has the same infinity pool and balenese style villas with indoor AND outdoor shower!!! My only regret is the food, I've heard that the food at Oxygen is amazing and I was looking forward to eating there. I guess I'm going to have to go back :)

Sorry, there are no users yet.
We are planning our honeymoon in Costa Rica and decided to stay at a few places. One of them is Oxygen Jungle Villas. It has really good reviews except for a few that complain about humidity and mildew which I think is not a problem since you are in a tropical country. Anyway, I was really excited about booking a few nights there until I read a review that mentioned that the toilet there is only separated from the rest of the room by s frosted glass door that has no ceiling AND no flushing of toilet paper is allowed. I know it works for some, but the way my body works, I use a lot of toilet paper (sorry for TMI). Is this true? Is this a case for most boutique hotels in Costa Rica? I'm just not sure if I can deal with that on a romantic holiday.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
