I did and was able to get my deposit back. It was a small venue and the lathe who owned it was the sweetest lady ever. I just sent her an email and was very kind in saying that we simply could not afford it. I told her that I understood there was a no refund on deposit in the event of cancellation but we would be forever grateful if she did. Well, she wrote back and said she would and she actually did. Sometimes if you are just nice and genuine, people will be more inclined to help you out. That being said, if she would have said no to a refund, we would have understood because it is a business.

I cancelled my contract two months after we signed, TEN MONTHS BEFORE OUR WEDDING!!! and still could not get our deposit back! fml 🙁 $600 out the window, but we’re saving $3000 with our new plan (so, $2400:)

I cancelled my original venue and we lost the $1000, plus a small housing deposit. It was a hard blow, but it was worth it because we realized we had rushed into the original decision. And with our second venue we’re having the weddng we actually want.
