I've been. It is nice, but not what I expected. I did stay in one of the less expensive rooms, but I thought the whole experience was just average.
The weather in January is iffy. I was there in December and while it was pleasant, it wasn't really hot enough for me to want to swim. In fact, I was wearing long sleeves and pants most of the time.
It is a nice property, don't get me wrong, but for my money I think I would go elsewhere.
If you're going to Orlando, are you going to do the Disney thing? This past January I did Disney for 4 days and then a Disney cruise (3 nights to the Bahamas). It was fabulous.
Let me know if you want more info or have any questions.
Thanks for the insight. My concern is that my future husband needs to be entertained. I am totally content to sit on a beach with a book but he needs to have a lot of activities that are available to him.
If you don't mind me asking, how much did you end up spending in Atlantis?
As for the Orlando thing, I was thinking a day at Disney, but I really want to go to Universal to the new Harry Potter exhibit.
There is some stuff to do at Atlantis, for sure. Does he like to gamble? There are aquariums and some tours you can take. There are water slides, and there is a swim with the dolphins thing (but it is pricey).
I don't remember what I spent - it was a few years ago. I got a great deal that I found on Travelzoo. They have a weekly top 20 and I think it was around $150/night for the cheapest tower. Meals are a bit pricey there.
I personally love Disney. I think you could do one or two days at Universal and a couple of days at the Disney parks.
The cruise option might be really good for you guys. You can get some good deals, and there are TONS of activities available.
PM me if you want me to play travel agent for you. I love doing this stuff and I'm bored at work today. ;)
This past May, my bf and I vacationed in the Bahamas (Breezes All-Inclusive, not Atlantis). We took a guided tour around the main island that included Atlantis. The tour guide told us the best way to experience Atlantis on a budget was to stay at one of the motels right outside the complex. I guess there's shuttle buses that will take you back and forth. It helps save money on food too.
I agree with @bestforlast regarding Travelzoo. I love this site and have found great deals. If you haven't yet, sign up for their weekly email. Just last week they had a special for the Atlantis:
$129 -- Bahamas 'Atlantis' Resort into November (Reg. $329) http://www.travelzoo.com/top20/71852658-870322/
Source: Atlantis, Paradise Island, Bahamas
Thanks for the offer, but he's too cheap to gamble and we need all inclusive for the alcohol and food...maybe not the best option for us
I love Travelzoo, apparently I missed seeing that special! Thanks!
I've been and I would say skip it. We stayed at the reef which is one of the highest end hotels at the resort. I will admit the hotel was beautiful. I have travelled a lot in my life and this is one of the nicest rooms I've stayed in and it was worth the very high price tag in my opinion. BUT.. once you get there.. you spend sooooo much money. It's like $12 for a bottle of water. It really ruined the trip for us because we were annoyed by how expensive everything was.
I've been there. It's a very family oriented resort. And crazy, crazy expensive. You are unlikely to spend less than about $30.00 per person for a meal.
They've been talking about adding a meal or all inclusive plan, but I haven't seen anything come out about it yet. And the above poster is right about the weather. In January you'll need to go further south.
I've been there and it's gorgeous! I loved it! However it WAS crazy expensive, which ruined some of the fun. If you want all-inclusive, I'd suggest you look elsewhere. Maybe a Sandals or Breezes or Dreams or Secrets or something :) Good luck!

I'm thinking about doing 3 or 4 days in the Bahamas at Atlantis then 3-4 days in Orlando in the beginning of January.
Anyone been or heard anything good or bad??
