Ms Mojito, I have! I had an amazing time in Hong Kong--what a cool and unique honeymoon destination! What kinds of things do you and your FI like to do?

    Hi Carrie!!! :)

We looooooooooove to eat LOL. So priorities for honeymoon are:

    1) good food lol

    2) tourist sites/attractions/nice views

    3. shopping

Also which hotel did you stay at? We're debating between pacific and gold coast (in case you stayed at one of them hehe).

I had the chance to stay at the Peninsula Hotel once in Hong Kong. Mind-blowingly luxurious. Rolls Royces everywhere. People call  it "the best hotel in the world". The food around the city was astoundingly good -- but a large part of that was because the hotel was telling us where to go, so it was the best of the best of the best. Amazing to see the temples and so on. If I were going, tho, I'd want a chance to go someplace not inside the city. To see some nature. The Hong Kong culture is really about new, new, new. It's not a place that seems to value as much old things, historic buildings, or the natural world. So I'd want to balance the trip with another stop somewhere.

been there almost annually since i was a kid. you'll have a blast. took my fi (now hubby) there last year - he was amazed by the blend of east and west. check out the lonelyplanet - it's got great high and low brow stuff. other than the peninsula, other great hotels are typically on hong kong island side. it can be $$ though. there's also a new boutique hotel that just opened at a landmark building next to peninsula which looks spectacular. you've got to go on victoria peak - cheesy but great views of hk.

We're going on business there in May.  NYBRIDE, do you happen to know the name of the new hotel?  My dad used to always stay at the Penninsula, but sadly I don't think my budget is going to allow that!

I've been there twice - Hong Kong really reminds me of NYC.  Have you been there?  It's all the hustle, bustle of a big city - that surge of energy is all around you.

One of my favorite side trips was to the island of Lantau - just a fun day, exploring the little island.

My last stay was at the Ritz Carlton - but I heard they just tore it down.  I think the 'big' deal is which side you stay on, but - as you've likely been finding, nice hotels are not hard to find :)

My fiance and I were both there this summer and we're total foodies so I thought I'd throw out a few food recommendations

-Dim Sum and Lung King Heen (in the four seasons) It’s actually the only 3 star Michelin Chinese restaurant in the world right now.  I highly recommend going for lunch rather than dinner though and the dim sum is what's really great there and much more conceptual then the standard fare.  They even had an entire black truffle dim sum menu when we were there.  yum.

-Definitely got to a private kitchen when you're there. On a friend's recommendation we went to Da Ping Huo and I think it was my favorite meals of the trip.  The whole experience is a little crazy but it was about $35 for 12 courses all of which were amazing (although only go if you can handle spicy food).

-If you want a traditional dim sum experience I would check out Maxim's

-I've also heard good things about Bo Innovation although we didn't actually get a chance to go ourselves

-If you end up staying at the Peninsula you should try to have  a high tea while you’re there.

    Enjoy!

It's been almost five years since I was there, so I don't really remember the names of a lot of places! I stayed in the Panda Hotel--it was great, but kind of far from the "downtown" areas--we had to take the subway to get to all the major stuff every day. So, I wouldn't necessarily recommend it. Do you like seeing local culture and that kind of thing? I spent a bunch of time going to places like the Flower Market, Night Market, etc. I love just wandering around and seeing all that stuff. Also, there's one street on the island part that has craaaazy nightlife--it's really cool bars, all different themes, that kind of thing. I had one of the drunkest nights of my life there. Haha, probably not what you and your FI are looking for on your honeymoon, but fond college memories!!

I don't have any recommendations either but I was in Hong Kong for a 12 hour layover and thought it was AWESOME and wish I had had more time.  I'm sure you will have a great time there, and the people we met in our short stay were sooooo friendly and nice!

MsMojito: I wasn't paying, either. It was a press trip. ;-) Otherwise, I never could have. But it was something I'll always remember. Amazing. Definitely go the the Peninsula for high tea one afternoon, regardless of where you're staying. Lots of people do. Fun!!

That's so exciting.. you'll have a great time.  Hong Kong has so much to offer.

Lan Kwai Fong - is the bar scene.  It's right by midlevels where some of the young pop stars reside.

Another tourist attraction is big Budda statue

The Peninsula Hotelis gorgeous!  We stayed at the Nathan Hotel near Mong Kok and it was very convenient.  Recently there has been some incidiences of acid attacks in the Mong Kok district so that has impacted the perceived safety of that neighborhood.  @princess_laupoo - since you reside there, would you recommend that Hotel given the location?

If you can take a day trip to Macau, the are quite famous for their casinos (the Venetian there is bigger than the one in Vegas).. they also have a strip that has clothing outlets. But not to be missed is the Po Tats (flame broiled egg tarts) from Margaret's Café e Nata they taste like a creme brulee with a tart made of Palmiers.  ooo soo yummy

Lan Kwai Fong is great if you want to go clubbing.

If you take the subway, it will take you to Hong Kong Disney (which I didn't have a chance to go to) and you gotta visit Times Square.

oh one more - honeymoon desserts, fitting name for your visit :) !  they offers similiar items that hui lau saan would have.  I prefer the ambiance of HD and have found the items to be a little less sugary.  We ate 3 times at the HD in the IFC location.  yummy!
