But yes those are generally very expensive, albeit fabulous destinations!

Oooh, those are all on my wishlist too! I've only been to French Polynesia several times, all on trips with friends since my college BFF is from there. It's absolutely gorgeous, and super remote so it would be great for a romantic getaway.
For our group trips, we actually found excellent deals on travelzoo.com since we were looking for trips over winter break... the "rainy season" is heavily discounted, but we got maybe 30 min of warm rain in the middle of the afternoon most days of the 7 we were there, and that's about it.
however, it looks like you'll be going a little earlier in the year-- I'd suggest checking out the forums at flyertalk.com. They have really recent info on the latest deals, and I know for a lot of resorts, you can buy a $150 membership that will get you free room upgrades and a bunch of other stuff, so you recoup the cost easily the first night.

We considered going somewhere like Florida for a few days after the wedding in August and then saving our big honeymoon (south Pacific) for right after Christmas through New Years because it is cheaper then... I absolutely wouldn't be opposed to that!

I am dying to go anywhere in the South Pacific (Australia, Figi, Tahiti, New Zealand)...but out of all the research I have done, those places are THE most expensive.
Can a honeymoon there be done on a budget, while still keeping it romantic?
