He kind of asked me to look into the price for the venue... but kinda not!

We're leaving Thursday for about 5 days and I've booked a rental car for 3.  I know you drive on the left side, but I was curious if anyone else has driven and if it's difficult there.  We're specifically staying in St. Croix.

I've driven in the British Virgin Islands, which is almost the same.  I don't think that driving on the left is too crazy, but driving the winding roads and taking hairpin turns were not for me.  I turned my car in after a day and a half of driving, the locals just laughed at me and my stories.  That being said, I should mention I have a fear of steep drop offs, and when you are on some narrower roads, it just fed my fear.  When I wasn't the one driving, perfectly fine.  Have fun and send some warm sunshine up north!!!

Oh gosh, our experience was funny but kinda frightening.  The left side of the road thing was fine, the turns where a bit confusing at first but over all they were fine.  But there are a lot of winding roads and cliffs.  The roads were narrow so we were driving slow and the natives were speeding around us, they were nuts!  I'm like that on the highway here though so I get it.  Just drive carefully.  I also don't remember too many gas stations so becareful not to go too low before you find one.

We stayed in St. Thomas and I refused to let FI drive.  Thank GOD I did.  The roads were incredibly windy and hilly and other drivers there were crazy (and I'm from New York!)  Be very very very careful is all I have to say!  We stayed for 6 days and took cabs the whole time.

I've driven in St Thomas and the BVI's and it was fine, you just go a little slower and are more cautious/less aggressive than normal...The only wierd part is making a turn but just make sure to be thoughtful about things and not slip into normal driving mode and you'll be totally cool! Have fun, I'm jealous of some time in the Carribbean!

When i was in St. Croix a few years ago, I was scared silly driving in the hills, and I wasn't even the one behind the wheel!  The flatter parts of the island (around the edges) are no problem as long as you remember to stay on the left, but driving up in the hills can be a bit dicey because the roads are incredibly steep and have very tight, blind turns and they don't seem to believe in guardrails.  It has been several years since I was there however (about 6) so things might have improved.  I'd say, go for it, but be cautious!

Thanks everyone!  I love driving so hopefully it won't be an issue - but I am a little scared of heights so I'll be white-knuckled around the cliffs. :)
