My stepmom went to one for a while after dealing with infertility for 3 or so years. She went to the sobradora for a while (6 months-year), and it didn't seem to do anything so she stopped going. She went to a new doctor a while after that. He put her on some medication, and that did the trick-- I now have my 2 littlest (half)sisters.
@red_seattle: Interesting. Yeah I don't know what to think about it yet...
Glad you have some little sisters :)
I haven't been to one... BUT i remember this guy we used to know that his mom used to do it and he went to massage school.. and he was telling one of my friends that he can work magic with his hands because she was talking about wanting a baby... But i could swear it was something with feet? Not sure
I lost touch with him darn it! let me know if you think it works LOL
@MrsJVP: Yeah they say having cold feet somehow connects to the uterus? Something about nerves in feet affect uterus getting "too cold". Not sure since people here don't really believe in that. If you search stuff in Spanish, there's more info.
I haven't heard of this type of massage. However, I do go to an acupuncturist and she says that I need to wear socks all the time because my feet and hands are cold and I need to keep my body warm. When TTC and PG, our bodies are the little "egg"/baby's incubator, so we should stay as warm as possible to create a nice environment for the little one
@1littlep: Yeah I know a lot of Asian countries have similar beliefs about staying warm and everything. Pretty interesting. My husband never lets me wear sandals now lol.
@MrsJVP: :) Sounds good.

After reading some Infertility posts, I thought I'd bring up this topic. If you don't knnow what a sobadora is, you can google it. But, it's usually an older Mexican lady (in my neighborhood anyway) who practices a type of massage (usually while praying) and recommends different teas or herbs for healing too. For example, I went when I had back pain and she cracked my back and even noticed I had bloating problems and suggested Chammomile.
I went after researching it for a "matriz caida" (fallen uterus). I didn't think I had a fallen uterus but I thought a massage couldn't hurt anyways. Oprah talked about it once too (article below). We've been trying for 8 months now (but more like NTNT so I'm not really worried about it). Since my DH's sisters have all gone and got pregnant right after, I succumbed to my husband and just went.
It really felt like she was moving my uterus, however that feels. Freaky. It hurt a lot and I was super scared. I think I thought it was going to be just a massage. She put on gloves and vaseline and massaged my abdomen, legs, and feet. She said that I don't take care of myself enough (which is true) and that I'm always too cold (also true). She told me to drink Gobernadora tea (super gross) twice a day - a tea commonly used in Mexico for different ailments. The experience was very emotional and I still wonder if she actually did anything. I know this is common in other countries, just not here at all. I know a lot of people that couldn't get pregnant for years and they went to a sobadora and they got pregnant right away. It's interesting to me and I thought I'd share....
What are your thoughts?
