Has anyone ever framed fabric themselves?

the easiest way to do it is with a staple gun, staple the fabric to the back of the frame. I have also done this with canvases and just wrapped them with fabric.

@MariaW:  i bought the frame canvas and stapled it to that. Im sure you could make your own canvases for even cheaper just using a staple gun. i love a staple gun! I love fabric because its a very inexpensive way to make your own decor, i have even framed fabric in regular glass picture frames and they look great.

@MariaW:  Technically, yes, since I used to stretch my own canvases for oil paintings. I couldn’t buy prestreched canvas in the sizes I was using.

Do you need help?

If you want to stretch them, you can buy very cheap frames from hobby lobby or Utrecht or other craft stores (I think Michaels has them, too). They are called stretchers, and they look like this:

They are usually sold in a little bag. Here is a link to some.

And here is a nifty image that shows you the order in which you staple, to keep your fabric taught and even.

You can pretty much pull as tightly as you want if you ar eusing muslin. If you are using linen or cotton (or another fabric with quite a bit of stretch) be sure not to pull so hard that you’ll just damage your material.

Hope that helps!

Oh, just make sure you’re stretching your fabric over the front of the stretchers (the side with the ridge)

ps- buying canvas stretches will be WAY less expensive than buying prestreched canvases. Plus, you don’t need the muslin/canvas, anyway, so it’s just a waste.

Very easy! I actually did that as a cheap way to make decor for our wedding!!

We also have some fabric i’ve gotten from my travels around the world stretched and hung in our home.

The tutorials other bees posted are perfect – just wanted to say that it’s a great idea!
