I just ordered from Ouma on Etsy! I should be getting the dress in the next two weeks but from what I heard she is AMAZING! She works with you to make sure the dress is how you want it, and put up with my million questions! I can update with actual dress pictures when I get the dress but this is the dress I ordered!

I ordered my dress from ebay and I got an authentic $2000 dress for under $400. I felt a lot more comfortable with that, because I had tried on dresses by that designer and I could read all the feedback so I knew the seller was legit. Unfortunately it is too big and needs too many alterations to be budget-friendly, but I posted it for sale and immediately got responses because it’s a great deal on a great dress.

I completely get being on a budget, but because of that for me I wasn’t willing to take a risk that a dress would be a disaster and I’d be out that money altogether. The other plus of buying a dress on ebay or other site is that you have a lot more recourse if the dress does not turn out to be what it was advertised to be. The knockoff sites typically do not have any type of return policy and you cannot easily dispute your purchase. I know there are people out there that got dresses very cheap that they are happy with, but I personally was not willing to take the risk. The other upside IMO of spending a little more money on an authentic but second-hand dress (which is not always used) is that you will have a lot more luck selling a dress from a known designer and get a big chunk of your money back.

For my second wedding I got a replica made from Gioavonni’s Bridal Boutique and it came out horribly. NOTHING like I wanted! The colors were wrong, the size was wrong, the design was wrong and the workmanship was pure crap. They are now called Diva Bridal I believe.

My advice is believe NOTHING on the web site and check the BBB rating and for consumer complaints before ordering anything!  Some online places do wonderful work and others are rip-off artists.

I bought mine from a custom dressmaker in China off of ebay – noble dress. I loooove it! It was $147 including shipping! I am having the bust area altered to give me a little more lift without having to wear a bra. I also be wearing a sash with lots more bling that I am custom making myself. 🙂

I got a used dress on oncewed.com. It was a little under half the original price (but really like a quarter because they hiked up the price a lot since the seller first bought it). I think the only alterations I need are getting a bustle put in a maybe tweaking the bust. If you do your homework with used dresses its definately worth it.

I would think that generally you should be cautious.  But, if you really want to order online from a maker in china, I think the ones that turn out the best are the ones that do not require delicate materials.  So if you’re going to get a replica, choose a satin or taffeta one, not a silk organza one.  And also choose a design that is easier to replicate, not one with a lot of intricate flowers or anything.  That’s just what I have read on forums, but I don’t have personal experience.

As long as you know your measurements ( take them) and the place has a return policy, its fine!

I have bought over 5 wedding dresses online- The Limited, Davids Bridal, and Ebay. Everything worked out great and I got exactly what I wanted for a low price 🙂

I got mine from the limited and am doing some serious modification projects on it now. but for a 40 dollar gown you can’t really go wrong.
