I am doing this (full pipe and drape through the entire venue, uplighting, etc), but don’t have pics yet.

I am on my phone so can’t post pics, but this site is AMAZING and really gave me vision for how to transform spaces. http://eventprotraining.com/2012/08/black-and-plumpurple-wedding-and-reception/

That is just one post but click around a bunch, she has lots of before and afters.

@SeaSalt:  Do you have any pics of your venue? Rarely is it necessary to completely cover all the walls.

uplighting makes a huge difference… and distracting people from ugly with focus points to look at.

Dim lighting with lots of candles/ fairy lights/ lanterns takes the focus off of the walls and gives a nice romantic vibe.

I did! If you can order fabric back drops or pannels, that does a world of difference. Our venue had an ugly wall, and it made it look so much nicer. White lights and candles make a world of difference too.

Do you have any issues with the floor/carpeting?  Our colors are black/white and lime green and the floors are burgandy with swirls…like grandmas house…not a palace.

Anyone have tips for keeping the eyes off the ugly floors.

We’re doing uplighting (no pipe and drape though)…but uhh the pics always look horrid!  Maybe this will help OP too?!

Oh god…this is a pic of the reception room I found on google…this is pretty much how I feel about it :p  The ceremony and the inn are lovely tho!
