- Wedding: May 2012
I took my last active birth control pill in May 2012, after being on BCP for over ten years. Since then, I’ve had two periods…one cycle was 137 days long and I’m currently on CD54 after that 137-day cycle. I’m glad I started charting so that I could (sort of) understand what was going on. From taking my temp daily at the same time for the past few months, I’ve noticed there hasn’t been a temperature shift at all, and that coupled with the super long cyles is telling me that I’m not ovulating. Bloodwork from a few months ago at my dr’s office showed that all of my hormone levels were “completely normal.” I brought up my long cycles with my dr during that appointment and I was told to just “keep track” and they could prescribe something if need be. They also wanted me to get an u/s to check everything out.
It is so crazy to me that my period is so irregular. I never knew BCP could mess it up so badly, and I thought it would be straightened out within 6 months, which it clearly isn’t. I am 30, I’m a normal body weight (ie not overweight or underweight), I work out regularly but not too much, I take prenatal vitamins, eat pretty healthily and avoid lots of caffeine. I have been reading TCOYF as well, which definitely suggested that irregular cycles need to be addressed by a physician.
I am frustrated, but I called my doctor today and was given a prescription for noreithindrone (Aygestin) which is supposed to “signal hormone changes to restore normal menstrual periods.” I really hope this works to restore my period and hopefully my body can start ovulating…otherwise I don’t know how I’m supposed to time BD, because it seems like the past few months of “TTC” were utterly pointless.
I guess I’m looking to hear from anyone who took Aygestin/Noreithindrone in the past. Did you period normalize/did you start ovulating? Did you get a BFP after taking this, and how long did all of this take, in your experience? 🙂 Thanks bees!
