I think 2mm is the minimum I’d go for e-ring width, anything less could be susceptible to breakage.  I read a horro story about someone’s shank snapping and going through their finger. Just food for thought!

I am wondering this also! We just purchased a loose diamond. Since I picked out the diamond I let hubby pick the solitaire setting. It’s a beautiful ring but it’s too wide for my size 3.5 finger it’s 3.2mm at the widest point. Its an x prong solitaire. I’m also worried that the thickness will make the diamond appear smaller than it is. So I’m commenting to follow!

I did it! I don’t have a pic right now of the before but if you look at my posts I have one about it. I went from a 3mm band to 1.8ish. I have a 0.25 princess center with a cushion shaped halo.

LadySmurph:  that looks great! Since my new setting is also around 3mm (3.2mm) it gives me hope that it can be done! Your ring looks amazing and the width is perfect! Do you remember if it was expensive to have done? I’m just wondering because if it’s going to be expensive I might as well buy a new setting.

mrssloan2013:  I did it at Helzberg since my ring haa a warranty from there (poor man of mine had no idea of the rediculous mark up) and they charges $50. not too bad for a chain jeweler!
