A family friend who preaches at a Baptist church offered to marry my FI and I for $100, which is great and all, except for isn’t it a little weird to get married in a church you don’t attend, nor plan on attending? I’m Catholic too by the way.

I’m getting married in a church that is over 200km from where I live. And our pastor isn’t even from that church. I don’t think it is weird at all

My family’s church meets in a high school auditorium, so we definitely weren’t going to get married there. We got married at a methodist church we weren’t members of, and brought in our pastor (not methodist).

We are getting married in a church but neither of us attend any church let alone the one we are marrying in

I don’t think it would be that weird to get married in a different church. However, as a catholic, it was important for me to get married in the church. My second choice would have been a secular ceremony. For me personally, I would not have agreed to marry in a baptist church/with a baptist officiant.
However, you have to determine what you are comfortable with. Do feel that your values, and the family friends/officiant’s values and vision fit yours?

I got married in the church I grew up in, I havent been to service to that chuch (before getting married) since my grandmother died 9 years ago this week and the last time was in that church was/will be 3 years in June when we got married. I see nothing weird about it.
