Has anyone had a custom dress made in Thailand?

I don’t have a personal experience but my friend did order custom made mother-of-bride dress when she was in Thailand. She was very happy with the way it turned out (she sews herself, so she is a strict judge when it comes to craftsmanship).

My thoughts about ordering a wedding dress – you are on a very tight shedule! I do not know what type of dress do you want, but if it has a complicated design, two weeks will not be enough.

I’ve had general clothes there and been very happy.

If you’re looking for essentially a normal, formal, dress in silk you should be ok. If you’re looking for a properly constructed ‘wedding dress’ you might need to do some more research to find a specialist.

Have you tried on any dresses? If not, perhaps you could have a trying on session at both a proper bridal boutique and a high street store to see what I’m getting at? Just that it took me fully trying on different dresses to appreciate the difference.

I don’t think the time would necessarily be an issue – whilst it’s a different thing, I had a couple of tops, trousers, skirt and knee high boots made in less than 24 hours once!

@moranar – Did you end up having a dress made in Thailand?  I’m going in a few weeks and was hoping to do the same thing.  If so, how did it turn out?  What did you do to prepare?

Thanks!

I have done custom dresses online from China. I had my prom dress be a custom from China, and my wedding (and possible reception dress) will be custom from China. The cost is way down over there, but the quality is the same (if you find a good store). My FI is a Marine, and when he was stationed in Japan he had some custom suits done that was way cheaper than anything in the states.

I do custom dresses from China online, which I like because then I can read customer reviews. I generally only do business with someone with 100 or more reviews, and someone between and 4 or 5 star rating. Not sure if you’ll be able to get that in Thailand, but my advice is to do research on the seamstress you choose. Some are great, some will butcher your dress. But I think you can very much do this, and save some money while you’re at it.
