My Fiance knows one of the band mates in our favorite ska band.. and he asked them if they would play at our wedding and they said yes! We are sooo excited! They have been around for more than 20 years and are SUUUCH a good band, 7 guys, horns, drums.. etc. However, they are not a “wedding” band and I am unsure of how to incorporate a DJ into the mix so it doesn’t seem like we are just throwing a concert for our guests..
I also don’t want to have to ask them to emcee the wedding as well, this is not something they normally do.
Has anyone had both a band and a DJ, and how did you work it out logistically?

@Gribberama: We’re having a mixture.
We’re having a band from around 7.30pm, when the reception starts, until around 11pm, playing a mix of music, but mainly classics by bands like the Stones etc from the 60s/70s as well as some more modern rock/pop. They’ll be having two breaks during which they’ll play music of our choice (probably modern top 40 stuff) through their PA system.
We’re then having a DJ from 11 until about 1.30am who’ll play more modern music to cater to the younger crowd, but again with a mixture to keep everyone happy, inc things like soul and swing which our band can’t do.
We feel this will be best for our crowd, as we have a varied bunch in terms of ages and tastes and we want to try to cater to everyone and ensure that a) everyone has a good time and b) the atmosphere is good all night.
