- Wedding: June 2013
My little girl is very old now. She’s apx 14 years old and has had pancreatitis her whole life so she’s always had some health issues on & off. She’s also completely deaf and mostly blind. I realize she’s in the later stages of her life & we’ve discussed that we will take care of her, even if it means making sacrifices in our lives as long as she can walk, has control of her bladder and still enjoys food & our company.
She got a runny nose a few weeks before the wedding and they put her on antibiotics. The vet said she was giving her a more mild medication because the other one could cause stronger side effects and with the wedding, she didn’t want us to have to deal with them. So she got better, but a couple of weeks later started to get the runny nose again. They put her on the stronger meds yesterday, but I’m having such a hard time watching her deal with being sick! She’s on Amoxicillin which I know is strong even in humans. She doesn’t seem to have the really bad side effects that were mentioned, but she is really lethargic and still of course has the stuffy nose, which seems to be bugging her a little more today. Yesterday, she seemed OK & ate a bunch (I got her some extra fancy food so she’d be more into it). Today, she was excited about the treat that had the medicine in it, but I could only get her to eat a little.
What I’m wondering is if anyone else has had a dog on amoxicillin and has watched the recovery process. If you have, how long did it take to start seeing a change? I’m OK with her being a bit lethargic for a while if she is getting better, but the tiredness in combination of her still having the stuffy nose- which makes it a little hard to breathe is a lot to watch. I don’t want her to be suffering :(.
I call my vet a lot & they’re great about advice. I take her in a lot too and sometimes I realize there’s nothing big going on and I’m just paranoid because of her age… It’s also Sunday so the vets are closed & I guess I’m just hoping for a little advice from someone who’s been through something similar. If she’s still the same tomorrow, I will call them again. I also appreciate any of your prayers for her! Thanks!!!
