FI's sister actually wore her dress for my wedding BEFORE my wedding. She had a sorority formal that required a long black dress, and mine fit the bill :-)
She called and asked if it was okay, and I didn't mind at all, I just asked that she wait to put a bunch of pictures on her facebook until after the wedding.
I have reworn a dress twice since I wore it as a BM in June. It was a JCrew dress. I hope my girls will be able to rewear theirs, but we haven't chosen the final look yet.
my BMs are wearing dresses of their own choice. 1 of the 4 is wearing a dress she already owned, two of them are shopping for a dress in the next few months, and the 4th is hoping to be pregnant by the wedding so she'll wait until pretty close to the wedding to see what size she'll need.
as for BM dresses i've had to buy in the past...never worn them again. got rid of one, it was just taking up room in my closet, the other is somewhere at my parents' house. both are floor-length gowns that i really have no use for.
Nope, none of mine have reworn the dress and I didn't think they would. In my defense, I tried to get them to pick out their own so they could wear it again, but they refused. As a compromise I picked something inexpensive and flattering on everyone.
one of my girls wore her BM dress to a wedding less than 2 weeks after mine. it was a little weird to see it in pictures, but i was super happy she got to wear it again. they were long, dark purple, strapless Amsale dresses (pics in my gallery). they even have a tiny train (i didn'tknow about that before we received them), which made it even more surprising that she was able to wear it!
I wore a bridemaid dress from june to a wedding just 2 weeks ago. It was a cupcake yellow long and strapless, but I had my mother cut it a little above the knee ;) I got a couple great comments!
several of my girls SAY they will wear the dresses again (j crew, silk chiffon arabelle or taryn..they pick which one), and i hope they are telling the truth. one bridesmaid said she figured she'd wear it to a spring wedding next year..so we will see :)
I'm having my bms rewear dresses they already have from another wedding so I guess that counts as getting to rewear their bm dress.
i wore a dress that i wore as a BM when i went to another wedding as s guest (after checking of course what this person's colors were!)....i had been allowed to choose my own dress and so i chose one that would look good as a guest at a formal event. i have 2 other BM dresses though that i will likely never wear again.
i am also letting my BMs choose their dress in the color i picked. so if they like the color, perhaps they will wear it again
Good thread:)
I'm going BM dres shopping in January with my BMs. It's kinda disheartening to see that most BMs don't wear their dresses again. Do you think the answer is to get them to pick their own style, even though it'll be in my colour?
I let my maid of honor pick her own dress, and it could be any color (with the caveat that it should not clash with her bouquet). She considered wearing a bridesmaid’s dress that she bought for a wedding two weeks before mine. That dress really did not fit my wedding (I thought it was fancier than my wedding dress!), so I talked her out of it....but she did re-wear the bright red shoes she had purchased for that wedding to mine :).
I rewear one of my BM dresses all the time- I have a lot of semi-formal events to attend and this was perfect all summer. However, I also have the standard monstrosity that should probably be donated to good will so someone can use it for a halloween costume
One of my BM's wore her dress from my wedding to be a BM in her sister's wedding a few months later. My BM's sister was having a very small wedding with my BM as the only attendant. When she asked my BM to be her BM, my BM said "I already have the dress!" She also wore it one other time that I know of...to a sorority formal.
I also wore a BM dress I had from a friend's wedding to a sorority formal. My mom cut it off and hemmed it and it was perfect. I suspect a lot of sorority formal dresses may have had former lives as BM dresses.
Yep. With work, my friends and I have several black tie functions to go to, and almost all of them have work theirs, and I ordered one as well and wore it to one of my functions.
Do any of you have pictures of the BM dresses you have worn again? I would love to see them.
Our Best Woman wore her dress before the wedding to one of the post-wrap HBO parties for True Blood (she works on the show). She also wore the dress to a pre-Emmy party. She attends several cocktail/more formal parties a year for work, and has said she plans to wear the dress again.
I think maybe the reason mine were worn again was because they were pretty simple. They weren't black, but they were navy. They were also tea length, which may play a part in it. Personally, I wouldn't wear a long formal gown to a wedding I wasn't in, but that's just me. I've attatched some pics of the girls in their dresses!
My wedding was fairly recent, so I don't think my girls have, but I wore a previous bridesmaid's dress to a regimental ball once.
For both of my weddings, I had only one female attendant, and she picked out her own dress. The first time, my sister got a nice long dress which she could wear to parties afterward. The second time, my daughter used a dress she had already worn as a MOH in another wedding.
The first wedding was in 1977, so I don't have a picture handy. However, this is the one my daughter wore for my second wedding.

I was just in a wedding, and I definitely plan on wearing the dress again to one of the three spring weddings I have on my plate! I might get it dyed though, I like the color, but I couldn't wear it any other time of the year but spring. Thinking about going for a deep berry or blue, we'll see!
I paid $160 for my BM dress for my friend's wedding last year, and I haven't worn it since her wedding. I made sure that my BMs didn't have to pay so much for their dresses, because they may not wear them again. I just told them to get a green dress in a few specific tones. One of them got their dress for $20 off of ebay, and it's super cute!! I think the most expensive dress was $60.
Both my MOH and one BM plan on after the wedding getting the dress shorten and plan on rewearing it.
I am helping one of my bridesmaids pay for her dress because I love it so much that I am going to take it with me on our honeymoon for a nice dinner outfit option. So I know for sure the ones I picked out will get at least a second use!
The style is Belsoie L3020
I wore my BM dress before the wedding. I'm so bad, I never told my friend. Luckyly it was all good.
To date, I've been a bridesmaid in six weddings and have yet to re-wear any of my bridesmaids dresses. Nearly all have been too shiny or too stiff to serve me very well outside of a wedding party. For that reason, I chose cotton dresses in navy for my bridesmaids and all have 'said' they'd wear them again... but then again, I said the same thing to all of my friends when I was in their weddings! :)
I may have some alterations to the BM dress I wore in March so I can wear it again. If I don't, then I won't wear it because in it's current design it looks like a BM dress.

I'm just curious because it's such a common thing to hear women say that they would never wear a BM dress again. I was really excited to see my MOH in pictures where she wore the dress to another wedding! I was so glad she could get use out of it and actually at least liked it enough to wear it again (since I picked them out). The dresses weren't super expensive (about $150), but it was just great to know she would wear it again.
