This came up. Fiance’s fam is planning rehearsal dinner and awesomely want open bar. That is a lot of open bar! Because it is the night before our wedding. Just wondering how common it is, I haven’t been to many rehearsal dinners myself. 🙂

yes we had an open bar for the rehearsal dinner and the wedding. All weddings I’ve been to with the exception of one have had open bars. Rehearsal dinners have varied from open bar to open limited bar, (wine, beer, specialty cocktail).

We had open bar at our rehearsal and at the wedding. Most people took it easy at rehearsal.

I’ve not had that pleasure when it comes to weddings but have been to a fair amount of work functions with open bar each night for 2-5 nights. Everyone survived 🙂 But you do need to learn to pace yourself if you don’t already know that skill. If you’re worried about the condition of your guests then you may want to consider limiting the rehearsal selections to beer and wine only, or timing it so things wrap up fairly early.

We had a limited open bar at the rehearsal dinner (beer and wine only) and a full open bar at the wedding. No one really overdid it at the rehearsal.

All of the rehersal dinners i’ve been to have had open bars, but it seems like people tend to take it easy knowing they will be partying the next day. One weekend we Fiance and I had two big weddings, one on friday night and another on saturday – we were hurting by sunday!

We had open bar at both. People enjoyed themselves at the rehearsal dinner, but, didn’t get out of control.

@yellowshoe: So are we!! Though I doubt my FMIl is planning on any alcohol to go with the reheasal appetizers she has planned.

We will have open bar at both rehearsal and reception. But we will have rehearsal Thurs night, and wedding on Saturday. I don’t want everyone hungover at our wedding and our crowd likes to party.

We’re buying the alcohol for both Rehearsal Dinner and reception, and are planning to do open beer/wine for the Rehearsal Dinner and full open bar for the reception. There are a few heavy drinkers in the wedding party, so we’ll see how everything turns out! As long as Fiance and I stay somewhat sober the night before I think we’ll be OK. 🙂

We will have an open bar for the welcome dinner and the reception the next night. My people like to drink but they don’t get crazy to the point where I’m worried about it. But alcohol is an important part of social gatherings in my circle so it wasn’t really a question for us – we would sacrifice elsewhere before sacrificing on the bar.
I’m slightly worried that it’s like I’m having two receptions in a row because everyone’s invited to the welcome dinner and there will be an open bar at both events. But heck, it’s not like people are going to complain that we supplied too much alcohol.
