mzwiggy:  Why? I don’t relly have people say to me “Oh, I love your diamond ring!”, just, “Oh, I love your ring!” Do you really have that many people making a distinction and comments asking if it is a diamond or not when they are looking at your ring?

mzwiggy:  The only time anyone’s ever said anything about my moissanite, it was a professional diamond supplier – he said “Who picked out your diamond” in a kind of joking way because he was talking to my dad about work. I simply said “my FI picked it out”

I have explained to family and friends that it’s not a diamond, but a moissanite and how much I love it!

mzwiggy:  You should say, “Do you see it” And when they say “yes”, then say “then it is real”.

MissSweetiepie:  No snark, truth. What business is it of anyone but you and your FI?

I’ve never had someone ask if my ring was a diamond. They usually just tell me it’s gorgeous and that he did a good job of picking it out.

If anyone asked, I’d be honest and let them know it’s moissanite because I’m not ashamed to have a lab created stone, and my friends and immediate family all know it’s moissanite.

I have had mine get mistaken for a diamond a few times…once by a jeweler actually.

I can tell the difference because I looked at some while picking my ring. Not that I would ever go and ask someone. That’s just weird.

Never was asked. People just assume it’s diamond. I tell friends and family though It’s moissy. They think I’m silly because I have a diamond ering too, just wanted a change after 26 years.

So far, the only time anyone has come right out and asked if it was a diamond was the really, really snooty consultant at the bridal salon where I purchased my dress. When I went in to see my dress after it arrived, I was in the changing room with her and my mother trying it on and she grabbed my hand and told me how gorgeous it was, and then started asking about the size, the price, and then she asked if it was an old diamond. I started to say no, but my mother cut in and said yes. The woman sighed and oohed and ahhed some more, but you could definitely tell she was trying to cater to us after that. I stayed silent about my ring, but after we left I asked my mother why she lied, and she rolled her eyes and said, “Let that stuck up snob think you have a forty thousand dollar ring on your finger.”

Other than that, whenever anyone brings up my ring I always say thank you, but if I feel as if they are implying it is a diamond, I always mention it’s a moissanite. I don’t feel the need to explain it all the time, but I never want it to come back to me or appear as if I’m being deceitful.

MrsUPS:  OP didn’t ask if people were asking if it’s real or not :/ I don’t think there’s something wrong about people asking if it’s diamond or not either. Sure the ring is about you and your fiancé, but no matter what, some people will ask, and if you’re happy with it then who cares if they ask right? Wouldn’t you be proud of telling people about it if you’re happy with what you have? No reason to be all defensive unless people are actually making fun of your ring/diamond/moissy.

MissSweetiepie is right, you’re being a little snarky.

MrsUPS:  either way though even if they ask if it’s real or not it doesn’t really matter. Just say yes it’s real whether it’s a diamond or not 🙂

I’ve had my diamond ring questioned if it was diamond, and these were tiny melee stones (I mean, obviously affordable)! hahaha. so really, people are gonna ask no matter what. my moissies do get mistaken for diamond all the time, even by professional jewelers, even after they’ve examined it close up under a microscope/with a thermal device. meh. I try to tell everyone who cares about moissanite, but seems most people aren’t as educated/interested in shinies as me. ;P
