I've read it... well skimmed through it. I believe in the general concept that whatever we put out into the universe comes back to us, and that we can to some degree create our own reality through intention... but all in all I found it to be kind of a cheesy read. Have you read the Celestine Prophecy? It's kind of cheesy as well but it's sort of the same idea and I like it a little bit more. Paulo Coelho's books are good too... I really liked the Pilgrimage.
I've seen the movie. That's close enough right? lol! I've interpreted it more as 'the power of positive thinking' rather than, if I believe it, I don't have to work for anything as it will fall into my lap (which is how my ex interpreted it).
I believe that if you keep a positive attitude and work towards your goals, things will work out in your favor. I also I feel like when I think of my goals as 'intrinsically true' they tend to happen. For example last year, I knew that by now I would be driving a new Subaru. I wasn't sure how it would happen, but the more you think of things out of a 'what if' or 'I wish' context, the more likely you are to work towards those goals. Your subconcious mind tells your concious mind to save money, or work harder.
I also use it to keep up with a workout routine. I don't ever think "Dang it, I have to work out today." I think, "I can't wait to work out after work!" As hard as it is sometimes, it tricks your mind and I tend to stay more focused on my goals.
@Rosie- It's mainly just about the power of positive thinking and sending your deepest wants and desires out into the universe to have it be sent back to you in real form. It's kind of a neat book. I refer to it often, but sometimes have a hard time grasping the content after a little while!
@northernazbride- I haven't read the Celestine Prophecy. Does it go more in depth than The Secret?
@Miss Biner- Yeah, that's a good way of looking at it. I always try to have a positive attitude, but something will get in the mix of that and it'll throw off my mood. I always try to keep referring back to The Secret and how "thoughts become things" but sometimes I feel that I need to re-read it to really get the point of it again. Does that make sense?! I think maybe I should be more diligent with it and see if I can truly transform things in my favor.
:]
Miss biner I agree completely. Life is going to throw you storms and curve balls.. but its how you react to them that determines the outcome and I agree thats what this book is trying to convey.
I haven't read but my mom has and she is alllll about it! In a long discussion with her about it though, we both kind of agreed that (in our opinion anyways) it is less some magical cosmic forces that are creating your reality but rather your attitude and hard work. She used me as an example. I didn't know "the secret" and I don't really put things out into the universe that way.. but I am a very confident person when it comes to setting goals for myself and things do always seem to work out for me in that way.
Is it really that I "put it out there" that I wanted x,y,z? I don't think so. I think its that I decided that is what I wanted for myself, and it never occurred to me that I COULDN'T get what I wanted if tried. So I just live my life in a manner assuming that what I want will come to me and my actions make it happen. Other people are too scared to really try for their dreams so they don't take the right steps to make it happen.

Just curious to see if anyone has read this book and what their thoughts are on it. I've read it numerous times, but I can't seem to get my head around the concept of it sometimes. I find that I refer back to it a lot, though.
