Planning a little trip to Disney this fall. We usually stay at the Wilderness lodge, but was looking at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and it looked pretty cool (with the safari in the background).
Has anyone stayed there? What did you think?

I haven’t, but hopefully other Bees have! We toyed with the notion of honeymooning there, and I would still love to stay there at some point!

We went to Disney for our honeymoon and stayed at the Animal Kingdom lodge and we LOVED it!! If you’re considering it, I would definitely recommend spending the extra bit of money for an Arusha view room. We could sit every night and watch the animals roam around and be fed and whatnot. It was beautiful! They also had a fire outside in the firepit every night and the pool was never super crowded. We also loved the counter-service meal area there (The Mara). We bought refillable mugs on our first night there for around $15 each, and for the rest of the trip, we could have all of the free coffee/tea/fountain drinks that we wanted. Definitely feel free to msg me if you would like any suggestions and I’ll help out as much as I can! 🙂

We’re going to be at the Wilderness Lodge, but have never stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge.
I like the WL because it has boat transport to the Magic Kingdom and can get to the monorail really easily. The last time we went we had a room on the first floor around the side, right next to a secondary pool that no one else used. It was far enough from the super crowds that we could get peaceful downtime, and close enough to Epcot and the Magic Kingdom that we didn’t have transportation lags. (I’m not the most patient of people) And I loved taking the boat!
Pretty much anywhere you stay on site at WDW makes it hard to have a bad time though.

@TheLadyK: Completely agree, as long as you are at Disney you are bound to have a great time.
We really wanted to stay at AKL when we took our kids in Januay. It wasn’t in our budget to upgrade to a room with a view so we decided to stay at the Coronado SPings, which I highly reccomend. It was a beautiful resort and it was nice to save a little money. Next time we go if we can swing it we will stay at AKL, if not we would go back to CS in a heartbeat.

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge in November 2010. Loved it! Our room overlooked the safari and it was awesome to wake up in the early morning, go out on the balcony, and see giraffes and other animals. When you check in they give you a guide to the animals you might see out your window. We saw several giraffes and some sort of wildebeest. I’m biased though, it was my first time at Disney World, so I’ve not stayed anywhere else. We did eat at the restaurant at the Wilderness Lodge and I think that would have been our second choice.

My fi and I stayed at the AKL just before Christmas 2009 and LOVED it. We found a special package deal online and stayed in a club level room with a savanna view. We were only there for 2 nights because we were on our way to a cruise, but I wanted to stay longer. Definitely get a room with a view of the savanna. It was fun to just sit on the balcony and watch the animals. Customer service was great and the pool area and secluded hot tubs looked wonderful… we just didn’t have enough time to enjoy them. The club level was a nice extra bonus- they have a special area on the top floor with snacks and drinks and a concierge to help you plan your stay. I would DEFINITELY stay there again.

I’ve stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and loved it. I had a room over looking the animals and I loved waking up and taking my coffee outside and watching the animals. The main pool was big. The only downside I would see is that the AKL is kinda out of the way, so it takes longer to get to parks (other than AK).
I hope you have a fantastic trip!

Fiancee and I stayed there last March for a week and had a great experience. I would defintely stay there again. I agree with previous post that it is a bit further from the other parks, but it was not a huge deal.

Thanks for the feedback ladies! We are still debating between the two (FI’s family goes to disney every year and always stays at Wilderness lodge, so FI is really comfortable with it) but I think I’d like to try something new! 🙂 Gives me some information to share with him! Thanks!
