Yes i did this a few years ago. You will get the exact amount that was paid for the original item towards the upgrade. The upgraded piece has to cost at least double the amount of the original. So your going to pay the same amount as the original or more. So for example say your original ring cost $1000 and the new ring you want cost $2000 you will give them your old ring and pay $1000.

I also wanted to add that you can even give them old diamond jewelry that you don’t wear towards the new ring as well. It doesn’t have to be from kays. If you don’t have a receipt they will determine what it’s worth.

I bought a ring on Craigslist for $200 and ended up getting $1000 from Kay’s for it. We traded it in for an upgrade and got a $1000 discount. It worked out great and they felt like they made their money not knowing I got a steal of a deal on the original.

I wouldn’t feel as good about my deal had I paid full retail on the original trade in.

Daisylovex3:  If you purchased your ring there they should have a record of it. You just have to trade it in for one that is double the price. The ammount that you paid will go completely towards the new ring.

Haha, I just posted a thread about trade-ins too! I was wondering about Canadian chain stores though. Any bees know if they will accept additional rings not purchased at their stores towards the value of a trade-in?

Daisylovex3:  Kays takes foreign and domestic diamond trade-ins. Be careful though, b/c you won’t always find a qualified person doing the assessment at all of their locations. I would get your diamond merchandise appraised before you let them tell you what it is worth. They will try and give you as little as they can for your items.

Daisylovex3:  they don’t care where it comes from. I told her I didn’t buy it from Kay’s. It was a nice ring. I’m sure they marked it way up and sold it. It was a very classic three stone, so it would have been easy to resell. It was mutually beneficial, and I got the ring I wanted for a price I was comfortable with! 🙂

Just an FYI I’ve had a ton of problems with my rings from Kay’s When they’ve sized them. Unless your a size seven (what they have in the store) or .5 either way have them make it in your size. Just save yourself some headaches.
