I've actually had really great experience with Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash, Pink Grapefruit. It works really well for me and doesn't break the bank!
@Gemstone: Thanks! Where can you get this product? Would it happen to be in walmart? or Maybe online?
Try witchhazel, its a natural product that is really good at getting rid of pimples. My old roommate struggled with acne for YEARS, got fancy creams, expensive products... then used witchhazel face wipes & they were all gone within 2 days.
Here's the trick with acne - pimples are known to secrete a "sticky" film. The reason why ProActive works so well is because the first step is a chemical peeler that gets rid of the stickiness, and then the second step is the anti-bacterial agent.
So the key is to use two cleansers (the 1st with salycic acid, the 2nd with benzoyl peroxide), but if you have sensitive skin, try not to get one that has an abrasive in it too.
Good options for Step 1: Neutrogena Oil-Free Acne Wash Redness Soothing Gentle Scrub
Good options for Step 2: Neutrogena Clear Pore - but don't leave it on your skin like a mask, as that's super drying and can increase oil production.
Good luck!
Stores usually carry it in the "natural section", my friend works at a grocery store & its sold there (they have a natural section in the store). Maybe a health food store would have it?
I follow this blog in my RSS reader. This dermatologist had a great post on saving money on acne solutions:

@Gemstone: I second this!
I use the Neutrogena and it works so well that even FI uses it now. You can get it anywhere, Walmart, CVS, grocery stores, etc.
I saw on The Doctors a tip by the plastic surgeon guy...
You get one of those loofa on a stick things, and actually just pour white vinegar on it in the shower, then scrub your zitty skin areas with the vinegar.
It helps me get rid of bacne.
Try to make sure you are changing towels and sheets VERY regularly (like 2x a week). Those can harbour a lot of nasty bacteria too.
I had this problem in high school, and a friend recommended sleeping topless. I tried it and my skin cleared up in about a week. It's definitely worth a shot since its free! :)
I actually read once that head and shoulders works for bacne which I get when I work out a lot, and it totally works since its antibacterial! Target also has a great cleansing body wash that is their Up and Up brand that I like! Anything with scents, moisturizers etc probably won't help your skin.
I found medicated cleansers made my body acne worse because they dry your skin, so I now exfoliate with a loofah-material washcloth, wash with Dove for senstive skin beauty bar, and moisturize with Aveeno. I still have some acne on my shoulders, and it's much worse when my hair is long, but it's pretty well under control for 3 of 4 weeks each month (if you know what I mean). I treat pimples on my boby with neosporin because I unconsciously pick at them.
I like proactive body wash! I don't have bad body acne.. but when I work out a lot I do break out on my chest. Proactive usually clears it up within 2 days or so! I second the witchhazel comment though .. I have heard great things about it!
@Aure: I 3rd this : ) I think mine is a scub too though
ehh I have this problem too :( Chest and back...not crazy acne but definitely pimples here and there and that sh!t is not sexy. It makes me shy away from my SO sometimes if he wants to rub my back or something. blah. and it's only been in my recent years...maybe the last year?? thank u for posting.
I will say, I use the Neutro grapefruit one, and it smells AWESOME but I haven't noticed a change at all. I'm thinking of trying the proactive route.
i have this same problem. another useful tip is to make sure that you wash your shoulders, face, and neck AFTER you rinse conditioner out of your hair. a lot of time, the conditioner we use can clog pores, and if not rinsed out properly it can lead to breakouts around the hair line, chest, and back.
also, i use the neutrogena body wash and the pink grapefruit scrub. it does help :) it can be drying though, so make sure to moisturize. dry skin can make breakouts worse.
Yep, Neutrogena pink grapefruit for me as well! The original one works too!
This may sound funny, but do you wash your hair and condition your hair after you use body wash? My dermatologist indicated that is a huge cause of the problem of acne on the shoulders and chest , plus the back. Make sure you use shampoo, conditioner and other hair products and THEN use body wash. My dermatologist recommended Dial body wash as well. :)
@Mrs.Estep: Hey hun! Sorry I'm just seeing this. I can get it at any drugstore or grocery store. I bet Walmart has it.
@torlay99: Ooh, I always use the pink grapefruit acne wash after my conditioner. I'm positive that my conditioner contributes to getting acne on my back.
I have used the proactive cleanser, toner, repair lotion and it works really well for the first couple years. But then it is like your skin gets use it. Right now i have started using evening primose oil supplement capsules. I break open the capsule and apply it on my face but can be applied to your body as well. I swear my skin never looked better and i have been struggling with acne for 15 years. I also am using cetaphil cleanser and mosturizer. Every few few days do a clarasonic scrub.

I get pimples on my chest, shoulders & back. I hate them. :( I hate that when summer comes around any cute top I wear the first thing I notice are nasty pimples. :/ I wash those areas VERY good, inlcuding my back! I don't wear the same shirt to bed over & over (as I have heard this causes break outs) & I don't know what else to do about it.
Tips or any advice on any good products that aren't crazy expensive?
