DH did not feel well this morning and then told me it burned when he peed. I told him to go to doctor right away because it sounded like a UTI. He is now home and so uncomfortable. I feel so bad for him. The Dr gave him two antibiotics, so I hope he feels better tomorrow.
Anyone else ever had this happen to there SO? when did they start feeling better? i never knew a guy that had a UTI before

Poor guy, that sounds painful! I’m a pharmacist and have treated male patients with UTIs in my old job. They are much less common because a man’s urethra is longer than a woman’s and thus its harder for bacteria to get up in there.
Make sure that he has enough antibiotics for at least 7 days of treatment. Also, follow up with the MD regarding the cultures to ensure the medications he is taking cover the type of bacteria that is growing.
Hopefully he will feel better in 2-3 days when the antiBs start working! Definitely take ALL of the meds, even if he starts to feel better. Thats because it can lead to antibiotic resistance by leaving the strongest bugs behind.
Let me know if you have any other questions – I feel for him!

Your poor husband, I hope he feels better soon!
I had a boyfriend ages ago who got a UTI once (the werid thign was, we weren’t even having sex….). I think it was probably a couple of days before he felt better once he got antibiotics. He found that chilling in hot showers made him a little more comfrable.

This used to happen to my grandfather all the time (he lived with me during his last year).
When men get older they can have trouble emptying their bladder completely. This causes UTIs
there’s an OTC medication called AZO (I think) that will help with the pain.

This happened to my FI pretty commonly when we were first dating. One time he drug me into the bathroom to check and see of his red pee was normal (bless his heart). Turned out the infection had spread up to his kidneys.
Anyways, I feel for him and hope he gets better soon! Make sure he finishes the prescription, even if he feels better!

Not that I’m aware of, but I’ve had them, and I feel sorry for your poor SO! They are horrific!

YES! When FI and I first started dating, I got a UTI (didn’t know I had to pee after sex) and I think I gave it to hm, b/c he got it, too.
He drank a lot of cranberry juice and water, took the following pills:
And we’ve been both UTI free since! 🙂

I think a NP would be fine. An MD would likely give the same prescriptions. Treating a UTI is really straightforward. I would say if hes not feeling better after 3-4 days of antibiotics, its worth calling the MD/NP to follow up.
