@Jw1724:  My house has been broken into but we were not at home at the time. This happened a couple of times as a kid too. But we live in a big city in Canada so I don’t think too many intruders here have guns. They’be just been after food and things to steal to sell. I don’t know that I would consider it life-threatening.

Yes, in the middle of the day while we were at work.  A quick in and out for jewelery.  So much for one of the safest towns in the area!  Even the cops were shocked.

When I was little someone.ransacked our apt. This was the only time that I know of. Dh & I live on the third floor now, doubt anyone would want to climb all the stairs.

@Jw1724:  When I was really little we came home to a burglary but my dad had his gun and the guy took off. Obviously I don’t remember it but we lived right outside Nashville but in a suburby part so it was probably a little surprising but not totally shocking. It was a house.

@Jw1724:  When I was very young our house was broken into. I can barely remember sitting in the backseat while my dad went to investigate because we came home and saw that the front door was open. They stole my mom’s jewelry and a couple electronics.

My SO had an apartment break-in of sorts before we lived together. He lived in a complex that had a 7-11 on the corner. He walked the maybe a quarter mile to get coffee and when he got back his laptop was gone. He had left the door unlocked but was gone all of 5 minutes.

And finally, my godmother’s house was broken into TWICE in about a month! The house next door had been abandoned and teens kept breaking in and partying there. She was out of town for a week and her house was broken into (because they obviously figured out that she wasn’t home). They stole her laptop and i-pad. She had an alarm installed but about a month later another kid broke in through the back window IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DAY! He bled all over the place but didn’t seem to get anything. Pretty scary.

@Jw1724:  It was when I lived at my parent’s house before I moved out. It happened when I was 18….during my senior year of high school on a Friday night while I was at work and I came home to everything a wreck and my new car gone. Of course, it was my meth-addict neighbor who used to babysit us when we were little and taught me how to read. It’s a scary world we live in. I don’t understand why people do some of the things they do.

I had two guys try to break in once when I lived alone with my son. My gun was at the shop so I opened the door and jumped out at them yelling with my bow and arrow. Yeah, they took off.

I also had a violent ex try to break my front door down. My .44 scared him away. Cops showed up half an hour later.

@Jw1724:  yes, almost 20 years ago I came home from work and walked into my house being burglarized. They ran upstairs as I walked into my kitchen. I turned right around and walked back out, got in my car, and drove to a neighbors to call police.

Yes, and it was the first burglary on our street in at least twenty years. They broke in the back window and took two laptops, my DSLR, gaming systems, an e-reader, backpacks, food… it was awful.

I would have been home with the dogs, but I’d taken them with me to my parents’ house to let them run around outside because they have a large plot of land, and then when I was about to leave, my mom, who had had major brain surgery the month before, asked me to look at her incision to make sure it looked okay because she was afraid to touch it, and when I looked at it, it was infected, so I stayed an extra hour to clean and dress her incision site. I got home and they ran out the back door when I pulled in the drive. It was only 9:00p :(.

Growing up in a small town our house got broken into one day while we were at school/work… They stole TVs, electronics & all my moms jewelry. That was probably 15 years ago.

As an adult, I havent had any of my homes/apartments broken into, but last year my dads house was broken into sort of. My dads girlfriends son was home (18 years old) & someone rung the doorbell in the afternoon… He answered & they said they were doing boosters for the school band… Well the two dogs were barking at the person at the door, so my step brother turned around to tell them to be quiet & when he turned back around the kid had a gun to his face and forced him into the bathroom. 6 young guys proceeded to come in and take laptops, tvs, ipads, ipods, etc… to the tune of 10k of my dads stuff. What my dad was most upset about what the gun being involved. My step brother is still shook from this instance & my dad has lost a lot of faith in the police department. This was broad daylight, a VERY nice neighborhood, & fingerprints were all over… yet the police never called my dad after the fact and said there was nothing they could do. So yeah, 6 young men, guns, and stealing 10k of electronics in broad daylight… WOW. I will never answer the door unless I’m expecting someone… Ever.

My house was broken into when I lived in Africa. I was gone and they left everything the way they found it, just sans my electronics. Never found out who did it.

I knew people who were robbed at gunpoint and knifepoint so I consider myself lucky!

ETA: My vibrator was stolen too. So awkward! I didn’t include that in the police report.
