@Mrscdnnavywife:  why does that irritate you? You sound like the luckiest woman alive to be pregnant and have it be so easy! Smile

My friends tell me the same thing. I have no children of my own but I have “stereotypical birthing hips” and am told constantly how wonderful pregnancies and labor will be for me.

Especially now that I’m newly married, my mother insists on grandbabies ASAP.

I just smile and tell them I prefer pets to people.

I’m not sure why either, but that sounds really annoying to me too. Maybe just ask them not to mention it again, nicely.

edit

okay I thought about it some more. It would be irritating to me because it’s like saying i’m only a vessil for pooping out offspring. It’s depersonalizing. IMO.

Maybe think about why exactly that irritates you and address that instead? It seems pregnant/postpartum women are really, really sensitive about a lot of things that others say with good intentions. I could even understand why Hyperventilate would get annoyed, if they were commenting on hip size or making predictions, but they are just correctly saying how easy a time you had it! So I think if you get sassy in response you’re just going to put people off. They think they’re giving you a compliment…

@Mrscdnnavywife:  Ugh. My family has been bringing it up for years, even before we were engaged. My step mom is the worst. She has a young grand daughter. She brings it up almost every time we see her. I have no desire for kids right now, and I really fail to see why my procreative preferences are somehow anyones buisness. One of my FI aunts even told me not to waste too much time in university, because you only have so much time to have kids, and if you’re going to be home with them you really don’t need all that school anyway. *facepalm*. How about no? I shudder to think about how often it’s going to come up after the wedding.

Please commit this to memory:

Stranger:  Wow, your body was made to have babies!

You:  Thanks…so what’s your excuse?

@Nona99:  Unless I’m just missing something, that doesn’t even make sense. They’re not strangers insulting her body, they’re nurses and midwives who appear to know she had an easy labor, bf-ing experience, and had a body that looks great soon after childbirth.

@Mrscdnnavywife:  “Its kind of stupid but i feel like now that all that people expect of me is to have babies and be a goog little wife.”

I actually get this sentiment, although I don’t have kiddos – once I got married, it seemed like kids were next on the list and that was supposed to be my new life goal. I don’t even plan to have kids at this point! I have had to learn to address that it’s my insecurity/irritation/whatever, and that that’s not actually what people are saying. You seem pretty open to that, anyway – just wanted to letcha know you’re not the only one who’s had that thought 🙂

I think that’s an awful thing to say, I don’t blame you for being annoyed. Any comment that implies a large hip size (which is my opinion of what they’re implying) is just rude.

@MrsWrangler:  It’s not supposed to make sense, because saying that to anyone is, I think, really weird and off color…so I would toss that back at them and leave the conversation.
