I had my first hair trial last week, and I HATED how it turned out:
I felt like it really just didn’t look good. The curls were barely curls – they were all falling out and just looked stringy. It did NOT look like it had been done by a professional, IMO — my mom used to do my hair for dances and it looked way better. Also, she used 74 bobby pins. Yes, SEVENTY-FOUR. I had such a headache within 2 hours of getting it done.
I went for my final dress fitting after getting my hair done, and I felt far too “naked” around my neck and shoulders. I don’t have long hair (it’s shoulder-length), but I usually wear it down, and I feel like I would be more comfortable that way.
The problem is, the hair stylist said my hair trial was included in the price of getting my hair done for the wedding ($65 total), and that I should just pay her on the wedding day. So I didn’t pay her (or tip her). Now, I don’t want to have my hair done by her at all — so how do I deal with paying her? My mom goes to her for haircuts regularly (although afterwards she told me that she never really thought this hair stylist did a good job…thanks for telling me that AFTER the hair trial, Ma!)
Help! What do I do?

Call her and say that you are going to go with a different stylist for your wedding day and that you’ll stop by the salon whenever to pay her. Chances are, she’ll probably want a chance to redo your hair (since your mom is a repeat client) and she may want to see you again.

I would probably just let her know that you decided you didn’t want your hair done.. and pay her half of the full price she charges. It’s not like you go to her for anything else, so you won’t have to worry about awkward meetings in the future.

🙁 sorry you don’t like it. I don’t think it looks bad but I can see why you aren’t happy with it. The front looks pretty though and I love your hair piece! If you can find another styist this late in the game I say go get a trial with them and see how you like that. If you find someone you like better, just go ahead and pay the $65 to the first woman and tell her you won’t be using her. Good luck!

I think it’s pretty and romantic looking. However, since you hated it, that’s all that really matters. Yes, call her to explain the situation and simply ask her what you owe her for the trial.

can you go back to her with another style?
it looks like the curls completely fell out. does your hair normally hold curls? if it doesn’t, have you tried a smoother updo or low bun style?

Hate it. Looks outdated and home-done.
Call her and tell her you are not using her/getting it done and offer to pay over the phone, stop by or mail a check.

That came across harsh unintentionally. While I don’t like it, I was trying to support your decision not to make you feel worse.

I’m sorry you don’t like it. I think it looks really pretty, to be honest!

I think you’re right to be upset, and unfortunately, the only way to handle it is to be honest with her.

Call ner and tell her you don’t lkke it. Offer to pay her fir the trial. The front looks nice but it does look like the curls fell out. Do you trust her to do it again? Maybe if you tell her your concerns she can come up with something different.

I don’t trust her to do it again. But yes, my hair usually does hold curls! (My hair is naturally curly.) Thanks for the advice, I will text the hair stylist in the morning and ask her how much I should pay her for the trial, but that I will be going with someone else. Hopefully my mom can just bring the money next time she goes for a trim.
Thank you all for hating on this hairstyle with me! I was wondering if I was being too picky. I’m usually pretty easy-going about things like hair, but…blech!
At my next trial, I’m going to ask for something more like this:

@mypinkshoes: that’s exactly what I was just thinking…. that’s what i would do!! and if you are going to wear curls apply a really great hairspray, kenra is really good, it’s a little bit pricy but it works really well! 🙂
