I never stayed at Atlantis, but I just wanted to offer this tip in case it matters to you. Harborside Resorts look fantastic from this view, but looking out over the harbor, you're going to look at the cruise ships. It's right across from where they port. It's also really close to where the water taxi back to the main island leaves from, so there will be lots of people outside, all the time.
The Bahamas are incredible, though. I really recommend you checking out some of the historical sites (Fort Fincastle, Queen's Staircase, and Fort Charlotte) if you have the time. Junkanoo Beach is also a really, really great beach to check out if you want to get away from Atlantis, and it's a fairly short cab ride over from Paradise Island.
We stayed in the Royal Towers but to be honest I don't really like Atlantis all that much. There were lots of families and children and it was just overall too crowded for me. I have been to the Bahamas 3 times and the other two times we stayed on islands other than the main island and it was sooo much more relaxing. Port Lucaya on Grand Bahama island is really cute and The Abacos are absolutely amazing! Nassau is great if you are stopping off while on a cruise or something but I would recommend checking out some of the other beautiful places in the bahamas if you get a chance!
I have been twice and stayed at the Royal towers each time... i say spend the extra $ and book there. The hotel is absolutely phenomenal - it IS pricey but it is just SO much fun!! It's one of those places that you are constantly in awe from the second you walk in. Beautiful marina in front (with your multi million dolla yachts!) the fishtanks, sharks, rays... OMG, i love it.
Make sure you budget for your meals as everything there (regardless of tower) is pricey... a muffin and juice in the morning is likely to run you about $20US. Rediculous but that's the way it goes there.
Have fun ... it's so worth a "splurge" trip!! (also, i found a long weekend was more than enough - a week might be overkill, but it's a great Thurs- Sun type place!)
Well I am biased but I helped to design the Cove so I vote that one! :)
The Cove & Reef are the newest towers and more modern in style while the other towers are more "Atlantis" themed. So it depends on what you're looking for.
we didnt stay at the atlantis but we spent several hours there one evening..its simply stunning but as stacey said the food prices were CRAZY, even the sushi was out rageous.
Good luck!
Oops I accidently voted incorrectly. Meant to click the Royal Towers.
It's been YEARS since I've been there (think family vacation when I was only in grade school!), but I remember it being a blast. So much to do! My brother and his girlfriend recently traveled there and absolutely loved it. Apparently there have been a lot of recent renovations/additions that make the overall experience even better. I'd love to return!
The Royal Towers are the nicest, and that is where I stayed. However, things could have changed since I visited.
We went to Atlantis this past summer & stayed in The Royal Towers and it was great. Defiitely one of the nicer hotels and central to pretty much everything, I would def stay there again.
PS> If you decide to go - hit the spa (i believe it's at the Cove?). Beautiful spa, I had a sub-par massage but it would be worth going for a little something (maybe a pedicure or less expensive service) to be able to use the amenities. It's very, very nice. Not sure i would get a massage again but would go back for something else!
Shopping in Nassau is great too!
I've never stayed at the Atlantis, but DH and I went to the Bahamas and stayed at the Riu Paradise Island.
It is a fully all inclusive resort RIGHT next door to the Atlantis.
We didn't have to worry about the cost of any food or drinks while we were there, but could still easily walk over to the Atlantis for the casino. We also wandered around the pools and through the shark tank exhibit around sunset (after they patrol for wristbands) and it was really cool.
While wandering through the Atlantis, DH and I were appalled by how expensive all the bars and restaurants were. We were so glad we'd chosen to stay next door and have unlimited food and drink and not have to feel like our wallets were being gutted every time we had a meal.
Another thing to note is that on paradise island ALL the restaurants are very pricy. The cheeseburgers at Johnny Rockets were $20 a piece!
Another thing to be careful about at the Atlantis is to make sure you know what your room rate includes. Some of the rooms do not include access to the pools, slides, etc. So make sure you aren't going to get there and then have to pay extra just for a pass to the pools etc.
I've stayed in the Coral Tower and to be honest I'm wasn't in love with it. The floor reaked of mold and children ran up and down the hallways screaming at all hours.
I know it is an amzing place thats for sure.
@KatNYC2011: Some rooms dont come with the waterpark pass? Thats just wrong. Youd think you have one the resorts rooms, it should come with it automatically. What time did u sneak over there? ;)
@Earlybride: The sun was setting... so 6:30ish? It was in January. We didn't go into any of the pools or anything, but did wander through the grounds.
@Earlybride: Just to tempt you more, this was the view from our room:
And the pool:
And the in room completely free bar set up:
And when we snuck over to Atlantis:
@KatNYC2011: In reference to sneaking into Atlantis - when was this? My FI and I took a cruise to the Bahamas last March (2011) and decided to go explore Atlantis while we were on the island, and they had guards stationed at all the doors getting out of the hotel lobby asking to see room keys of guests! It was crazy! I guess if I were a guest there I'd appreciate it, but I just wanted to see the grounds! haha.
@abbie017: We went in Jan 2010. If we tried during the day, there were guards. But if we tried in the evening/dusk time, there weren't any.
@KatNYC2011: Good to know for next time! I think we went late afternoon, so probably prime time for sneaks like me! :)
@abbie017: Yeah. Once the pools are closed I don't think they care as much. So once they've "closed" the pools for the night, it's much easier to wander through.

Im just curious. One of these days I would like to go there, but it turns out that they have at least 4 to 5 towers. WHich tower would you recommend?
BEACH TOWER
CORAL TOWER
ROYAL TOWERS
THE COVE ATLANTIS
THE REEF ATLANTIS
HARBORSIDE RESORT
All of these are connected to the Atlantis Resort. Which tower did u stay at? Did you like your choice?
Below is a model/pic of the whole resort property. You can see the general location of each place.
