So yesterday I was at the mall running some errands! My fiancé and I have been meaning to go check out our wedding bands for the past couple weeks, he’s just been too busy with work. So yesterday I decided to stop by and just check out prices so I can calculate our budget. (I’m in charge of the financial stuff for the wedding) So after trying on a couple wedding bands I couldn’t get rid of the gap that my ring created. Apparently no band really goes with me E-ring. However like a good sales lady, she brought out the exact version of my ring just a tab bit bigger, with its matching band. Soo pretty .. Fell in love but I left the store and decided to call up my FH and run this through him! he just said that if it fit our finances than I should go ahead and do it. I asked him if that would hurt him in any way and he said “no when I gave you that ring, it was for you to do what you wanted” I’m not like those guys that get offended.. Whatever makes you happy is fine with me”! So after that re-surement I called my mother to come join me and either convince me to walk away or get it! well I got it!! and I looove it! Gosh I know I can’t help but feel a bit superficial.. but its soo pretty and Im going to wear it for the rest of my life shoudnt I be in love with it?! How about you guys any of you done this???

@kventures: DH and I did the exact same thing. I couldn’t find a band I liked that fitted my e-ring. Any that had the curve right, just weren’t to my taste etc. and we weren’t interested in going custom. While in a jewelry store, DH wanted to look at e-ring settings and he fell in love with one that I liked as well. Long story-short and one really good sales woman later… I walked out with a new e-ring and my wedding band (we reset my original stone).
Like you said, you’re wearing it for the rest of your life so it should look and feel ‘just right’. Ring porn??

FI got a bigger tax return than he was expecting last year, so when he sent my ring to get re-sized he also had them replace the center stone with a bigger one. I didn’t ask him to do it, I loved my ring with the smaller stone, and I didn’t tell anybody he did it b/c I kinda thought it would make me look materialistic and make us look frivolous with money. But of course I love it with the bigger stone.
Also, FI proposed with the ring I have now (minus the bigger diamond) but he actually bought 2 rings for me to decide between.
I think it’s sweet that your fiance just wants you to be happy–you’re the one who has to wear the ring forever–so if you want a slight change then go for it 🙂

I liked the original setting on my engagement ring, but I couldn’t find a band that looked good with it. Our neighbor works at a local jewelry store and offered to upgrade my e-ring setting to a nicer one that would look better with the band of my choice for FREE!! It’s always good to make friends who work at wedding-related places… lol!

I think that’s perfectly ok! it’s nice that your FI was so cool about it.
I’m thinking of modifying mine: maybe adding gold to the inside-top of my e-ring to raise it up a mm or so. my wedding band kind of overwhelms it. when I wear them both, the band blocks the pretty art deco detail on the side of my e-ring so I can’t see it anymore. or I might see if the jeweler can make my wedding band lower profile, but it’s already pretty low.
the point is, I think you should do whatever you want to get your wedding band and e-ring to look good together! if you don’t think they look good together, it will bug you!

Yep, I upgraded for size from 1 to 1.9 carats. In a few more years, I will upgrade the setting to something a little more ornate, too. Very happy to have done this.

Your ring is gorgeous! I’m glad that you’re happy with your decision 🙂
I’ve had my ring modified. Not sure if we’ll ever upgrade it, but if we do it won’t be for a long time haha.
FI knew that I really wanted a ring with pave on the sides, but he couldn’t afford it at the time since he was paying his way through school. He proposed with a simple trellis-style solitaire ring and I loved it! He told me after the fact that he’d had custom made in order to add the pave at a later date. It was very thoughtful of him! I loved the ring the way it was before, so I really debated whether or not to actually get the pave, but we did and now I’m even more in love with my ring! Unfortunately, now we have to pay more $$ to have a matching band custom made because no other bands will fit my ring, but I’m glad that they’ll match 🙂

@indyJEEP: ooooh, nice! I really like the trellis style. your ring is timeless and classic.

I got a round solitaire with a diamond band, and I was thinking maybe on a future anniversary to put a halo around the diamond…but does that take away from the beauty of the solitaire? especially when it is a good quality diamond?
