Ok, our wedding is this Sat. August 14.  We came to the unfortunate last minute conclusion we can't afford the hall which we had set up since last May.

We do not want to postpone the wedding.  OUr hearts have been set on this as well as everyone else's We've been together four and a half years, lived together three and a half, and we're in our thirties and forties. We feel, enough is enough with waiting.  (We haven't gotten married yet due to his layoff.)

Anyway as of today we are looking into K of C (which I don't care, I no longer care about a gorgeous hall and I know our relatives will understand), and the price is a bargain. AMAZINGLY -- THE DATE IS STILL OPEN and we have an appointment tomorrow.  They are also located right near our church where we're having the ceremony (just like the other was).  And their menu sounds great.

Now that leaves whether or not we will have a limo, photography, video.  See, with the hall package all of those things came with it, as well as the DJ, centerpieces, and wedding cake.  We're still going to get a DJ.  I'm not going to get any  centerpieces. I'm not sure about the limo.

We could stay with the company that gives us the DJ, video, photo, and limo which the hall works with (that's part of their package).  They said their price is 4,000.

First question: is $4000 a good price for photo, DJ, limo altogether (though we'd use a couple extra hours for video and limo)? Could we get these things for less elsewhere?

Next: If anyone has had good results of a friend taking pictures or video, I'm totally cool with that.

Not sure about the limo yet.

    What do you think?

I thought you meant the fast food place! And I was like "uggh... trying not judge but..." I'm glad it's not. :)

I would recommend a pro for most of those services if it's in your budget. I think so much can go wrong and can really stress you out otherwise!

ETA: we are having a friend shoot video, because it'd be a friend or no one. It's not nearly as important to us as photography.

    @lilyfaith: So did I!

@bridepower: you might want to change the title of the post to K of C ;o)

Agree with lilyfaith to stick with pros if they're in your budget.

LOL!!!! I didn't know that's a fast food place! No, it is K of C.

It's not really in our budget, although maybe I could make something happen.  I don't know what to do.

I suppose I could live without the limo?

I suppose one of those small white town cars could do?  Are they less money?

Oh BTW: I am SO scared about calling the hall and cancelling.  We put down our $2500 deposit.  I don't care about losing that.  I am just scared they'll make us pay the whole thing anyway.  Can they do that?

I was like... is KFC catering? I know some KFCs have buffets so I thought maybe they did catering too. Like lilyfaith, I was trying to read with an open mind... Oh I'm so freakin' happy it's not being held in a fast food restaurant! :) *phewf*

$4000 sounds like a good deal to me... Our photographer (for 6 hours) starts at $4600!  I'm sorry your plans have changed, but good for you for sticking with your date & just making it happen! :)

I would say a limo is not at all necessary, a videographer is a maybe, and photos are important.

Oh you guys up there meant change the TITLE: lol.

    It's KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS. lol.

Ok, I will do without the limo if I have to.

I'm really scared -- I haven't paid the hall yet, would they make me pay it if the contract is signed (but it's May when we are supposed to start paying, 75%).

    Thanks!

I think $4000 is totally reasonable!! Read over your contract as they usual include a description of what's due after a certain time frame has passed (e.g. 2 months prior - full balance is due no matter what, 3 months prior - 85% of balance is due, etc.)

    Update:

Ok another K of C got back to me:

It's 1500 for 100 people. They have a full open bar but we'd have to provide food and entertainment.

If anyone can cook damn good (and I know there are plenty) we can have good food there or just get a regular caterer.  That would leave money left over for the other things I wasn't certain of. Then again there's a wedding cake to pay for.  And perhaps a wedding DJ (meaning one who knows what to do/say at the reception) would cost more.

Of course for this kind of price I'm sure the place won't be that pretty. :) I can't believe I'm saying this but at this point I don't care and know that everyone would understand.  Maybe K of C would let us decorate anyway.

I just hope that the hall we are signed up with won't make us pay any more money. Anyone know?

Well, I will say, if you took the $4,000 and got yourself a kick a$$ photographer, which you could with that budget, they would make your wedding look like it wasn't in a KoC hall! I could be biased, but of that package, the Photographer is most important, than DJ, then limo and video are just luxury's. But, spending the money on a GREAT photographer will make your day look like you had your old budget.... and thousands more.

Also, while it seems like a "good deal" if the quality of work isn't there it's not. And I will say, I usually see those "combo" places stuff and it's not usually that great...

I love KFC. It's my favorite fast food though. j/k. I would rather scratch the limo and use ipod and reserve more $ for photography.

i think a knights of columbus place is perfectly fine. i would scour everywhere and every source you can for the best deals on photos, limos, ect.  limo is probably the easiest thing to scratch off the list to save money.  you could realistically rent a car (Black Crown Victoria) for $50 a DAY and have a friend/family member drive you guys around.  Skip video altogether. Hit craigslist for an inexpensive student DJ. and spend most of the money on a photog. Photos are all you will have eft after the day is over!

yeah i agree now.  forget video and limo.  tho we might rent a video camera thing and have someone close to us do it.

i think the car thing is a GREAT idea! I was just posting about finding a nice cab/car.  I never heard of the one you mentioned so I'm going to check that one out.

We've got a company that gives us the photography and DJ and I think we might just keep with them (at this point).  But we're going to drop the other stuff.
