I've never attended a wedding there, but did see one being set up on my last visit. It was in the garden and was lovely! We weren't engaged at the time, but FI mentioned that it would be a perfect venue.
If you haven't yet set a date, keep in mind that hurricane season runs June-November, though some months are historically more active than others. As a Miami native, that was a factor for me in picking our outdoor summer wedding date.
Thanks alot! Am familiar with the hurricane season as I'm a GA girl and was born on a carribbean island! Usually October is safe..
I have a gf that told me today she's getting married in sept on the beach (panhandle) of FL! Crossing my fingers for her...
we've had some doozies of hurricane's or strong tropical storms in florida in October. October is fairly active. Also keep in mind key west will evacuate even if the storm has a moderate chance of coming close, and they will evacuate up to 3 days ahead of storms arrival.
this past september we were mandatorily evacuated, even though the storm changed course but there was a chance it would come through. (we were there from miami)The hotel said we had to go too. Just keep that in mind.
i'm really really not trying to be a wet blankie here, but after living in south florida for years (some of those in KW) I know to expect the oddball storm. I heart key west soooo much too- it would make for a fabulous wedding weekend. Just make sure you have a back up plan (to your back up plan) if its during hurricane season.
ALSO FANTASY FEST is in October. plan around that too. :)
Hi Bell--- yeah, October was pretty bad a few years in a row during hurricane season. The past 2 have been quiet, but you never know. I would say the peak is August, September and October.
I think I already gave you the info I had on the Hemingway House. But Beesknees makes a GREAT point about Fantasy Fest. This is an absolutely insane weekend in Key West, and if you have some conservative wedding guests, they might feel a bit out of place. So I would google Key West & events for your wedding month & see what comes up. They have lots of different events and since Key West is so small, if a certain group is in town (like bikers, for example), they seem to really overtake the island!
Hey everyone. I considered this place too for the venue. I've never been there but when I brought it up to my best friend she said that it's lovely but the place does have tons of cats. Apparently Hemingway had one and he told them not to ever remove them from the property. She said they were roaming around everywhere. Like I said I've never been there but form what she said maybe I would ask about this? If your guests have allergies or asthma might be something worth asking about.
Good luck and tell me how it goes :)
bellenga, you might want to look at this link http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/new-bee-038-keys-help-requested.
I just posted some ideas. Maybe they would be helpful for you also.
Thanks! I am going to check that out now!
I love key west and KNOW ALLLLL about fantasyfest and let's just say with the kids coming, that is NOT gonna happen that weekend!
I really love the thought of hemingway house still..but then again we fell in love with Pensacola on our vacation a few weeks ago too. Le sigh!
My cousin got married in the garden of the Hemingway House and it was super lovely, but two things were pretty annoying: (1) the cats, they're everywhere and (2) all you hear from the garden is the sound of motorscooters whizzing by. It was so loud, it was hard to hear the ceremony at times. Just somethings to keep in mind.

Please let me know your experiences. Help an ATL girl out! I've toured the home before, but only as of recent, considered it for a possible wedding venue!
thank you so very much in advance and much love!
