Sorry this is completely non-wedding related but various searches on Google did not quite produce the results I was looking for, and I know no better place to turn for help!
DH and I recently purchased a home with the intention of possible expanding it. But we have no idea where to start to get an idea of what it would cost. Do you pay an architect for a design, or do you tell a general contractor what you’re looking for and they build it? Will an architect know the laws (like changing where our driveway is or repaving requires a permit-does an architect know that?) Or does an architect work in conjunction with a contractor?
Or does a contractor typically have a partnership with a designer? I just have no clue where to even start on this :/
Any help is greatly appreciated!

No bees have gone through the process of building an addition?

I’m not 100% sure, but I think you would hire an architect to design the plans and I’m assuming they would work in tandem with your contractor. The contractor should know the local laws/permit requirements and he will know building codes. I would assume that the architect would know the local laws, but I’m not totally sure.
I know that’s not much help… but it’s a start…

My husband and I are planning on putting an addition in for our house… He works in construction so he has an understanding of what can/can’t be done. I actually drew up the plans myself for our 20×20 addition and then my DH got in touch with several contractors to get estimates. Of course our estimates came back double what we were planning on paying so it’s on the backburner for now. :/
I would start by getting in touch with some contractors in your area. They can give you an idea of what they need to start and probably put you in touch with someone to get blueprints, etc. made up.

We were lucky. Our house had an addition built on about 6 years or so ago. It’s great.
