Totally depends on the limits of your health spending account. My mom can put a gym membership and yoga classes and a new bike on hers without a script. I'd at least try and see what happens!!
I'm not trying to pass judgment or anything, but by medical terms are you overweight, BMI of 25 or above? That by itself from medical standpoint should grant you a "script" for a gym as a preventive measure from further medical issues associated with obesity and such. If you can find a doctor or advanced practice nurse to work with you, I'm sure you can come up with a medical reason to have gym membership for a year. Another one I can think of is depression (of course not real), prior to a trial of medication, a healthcare provider prescribes exercise. which is known to help people with mild depression secondary to the "good feeling" endorphins and improved self-image, confidence, etc.
@agusia: No, I am not overweight at all, not even by medical terms. I'm sure I can get one because of my sciatica during pregnancy. Although unless my sciatica continues through the rest of the year, I'm not sure I could find a viable reason, unless I find a doctor willing to prescribe it for me just because.
@red_pepper_gal: I looked at the list on our flex spending and everything is with prescription, even vitamins!
@QBbride: which part? the flex spending part, or getting a prescription?
Oh, so I talked to my midwife and she's all for me getting a prescription, but only one midwife is licensed to write prescriptions so she has to talk to the other midwife. But pretty sure I can!
@miss-spunkin: I've never heard of gym memberships being covered under medical expenses! Or getting a prescription. Maybe it's just in the States?
@QBbride: I know that some insurance companies will give discounts for memberships, without prescriptions. But yes, we can use our flex spending if we have a doctors prescription :)
@miss-spunkin: that's awesome! I should look into it just in case we can do it.

My husband and I put too much into flex spending and are trying to find eligible medical expenses to use it up. You can use it on a gym membership IF the membership is prescribed by a dr.
Have any of you ever been able to get a prescription for a gym membership? Was there any medical condition?
I'm sure I could get one from my midwife since I've had sciatica while being pregnant, but that would only allow me one for the next three months. After that I don't know if I'd have a viable "medical condition".
