We were recently gifted something that was used. It’s dusty, has scratches all over it and is generally in poor to average condition. I’m not a regifter myself, as I love to put thought and effort into my gifts to others. (Really, I just like to shop!) If I get a gift I don’t need I either return it to the storeor give it to charity. I’m not MAD about this regift, just a little shocked at the quality. For reference, this family has money so it’s not an issue of that.
It got me thinking though–
Have you ever been gifted something that was clearly used? Thoughts on giving used stuff?
PS: I’d do a poll but wedding bee polls don’t format right on my computer anymore (anyone else?)

@S2013: I haven’t been gifted anything reused that I can think of, but I have been gifted something that they clearly had in their closet for years and just didn’t open. LIke bottles of Avon bath stuff that hasn’t been sold for YEARS.

Yes, but not by anyone trying to pass the thing off as new. We live in a pretty “green” community, so a lot of our friends have opted to gift us baby clothes from the goodwill rather than add to the waste by buying brand new things that will only fit for such a short time. I don’t mind. They pick out all the best, cutest, coolest stuff, and are able to give a whole pile of outfits for the cost of just one new from the store.
I also wouldn’t mind if the gift was something you can’t buy new anymore, or a legit vintage or antique item. If it’s just, like, a kitchen gadget that’s been used a few times and then put back in the box, I would find that strange.

@S2013: All the time – people know that I like CD’s, DVD’s & books and seem to have taken advantage of that by regifting me their old CD’s, DVD’s & books. I can tell most of the time, especially when the book already has fold marks in there from their bookmarking, and one time I got two CD’s but the actual CD’s were in each other’s cases. #regiftfail

In saying that – I have to admit I regift alcohol. Unopened though! Just stuff I wouldn’t drink myself…
