I'm very embarassed writing this post, but I am worried that my tampon might be stuck and am reaching for you bee's to help me out. It was around Christmas time that I was at my fiance's grandmothers & had went to the bathroom, I felt that my tampon was coming out so I pushed it back in & didn't worry about it. The next day came, and I was looking for it. I couldn't find it anywhere so I'm thinking I may have pushed it a little too far without realizing it.

I don't remember taking it out at any point, I wish I could, but I am starting to realize I'm forgetful when it comes to specific things. But I'm almost positive I didn't take it out at all.

So, I never found it & was scared to put another tampon in. I was starting to bleed so I did eventually put another one in. I am still on my period now (or it seems like I am) but I am having a brown discharge sometimes or either it's a deep red. It feels like I have pain down there every now and then, like a sharp pain, but it could just be me being paranoid.

This has happened to me once while having intercourse with a tampon in, but I sat in a hot bath and eventually pushed it out. I just wonder if I were able to get it out after having intercourse, how could it possibly be stuck now just by me pushing it with my finger?

I have had intercourse since this incident has happened, but I've also tried multiple times to push it out & feel for it, and...nothing.

Do any of you bee's have any suggestions? Has this ever happened to you?

I would suggest seeing a doctor immediately.

If you've had sex comfortably, I'm willing to bet it's not in there. I have never heard of having sex with the tampon in, and I've never had it get stuck. If it's been over a month, you're more that likely fine.

If you're still worried, then I would check with the doctor. Especially if you're hurting!

ETA-By "probably fine" I mean that if you can't feel the tampon, and you're not swollen or anything it may have already come out. = )

I agree with previous posters.  If this has been 3 weeks, you need to call your doctor immediately and get an emergency appointment.

Go to the GYN, stat.  I read this crazy story on another women's website about someone who left their tampon in for like two weeks and she describes the same thing as you...yucky discharge and the whole nine yards.

I think at three weeks, you'd have noticed some horrible odor.  Still, have an appointment set asap for your lady-dr.  Better to know than to worry.

Most likely if you pushed it in with your finger then it wasn't in there very tight and probably fell out another time one time when you pee'd.

I would just call the drs and see if someone can see you-a nurse or assistant.  They can feel around (or use an ultrasound) a bit better than you can.

But don't feel embarrassed about it either, there are plenty woman out there that have done this before :)

You definitely should see a doctor, stat! An old tampon could cause a really dangerous bacterial infection. If you aren't sure, you should *make* sure!!

I've had this happen to me. I forgot to remove a tampon - weeks later I started having the brown discharge you're talking about. I went to the Dr. (at this point I didn't know I still had a tampon in) and they were able to remove it with no problems. I don't know exactly how long I had it in me, but I asked about infection and my doctor said getting infections are really rare. I wouldn't be overly concerned, but you definitely want to see your doctor to have it removed.

I've never heard of having intercourse with a tampon in either? I would go to the doc right away anyway, better to be safe than sorry. Most likely it came out when you went to the bathroom. Good luck!

Definetly go to the doctor.  Next time, go right away if you can't get it out.  That really isn't good for your body and can cause an infection.  If it is still in there, it hasn't gone too far, but it might just be back too far for your fingers to reach.

Don't be embarrassed. This happened to me once - and I didn't even realize it. I believe it was in for about 4 weeks. Because when I got my period again I took one tampon out and there were 2 strings!

I doubt it's even there, but if you are having pain and are concerned, definitely just go to the doctor. It's not something to be embarassed about, but I understand how it can be.

I agree with going to the doctor as everyone else has suggested. But in the future, not to get too TMI, but you can reach up there and dig around a bit and you should be able to pull it out. I've had sex with them in before and they get shoved up pretty high, but I've always been able to find it again. There's no way for it to get lost inside you because your cervix is in the way. Good luck!

Go to the doctor/ER immediately and get it checked out. Intercourse would only make the problem worse. For next time, just dig it out since it can't possibly go far. No reason to be embarrassed either.

Don't panic cause most everything is fixable, but def go to your doc ASAP. No worries, they can fish it out with a spoon or something (I'm totally kidding).

Yeah, I'm SURE you'd be able to tell if it's in there if you dig around, like some girls suggested. It can't go into your uterus, it has to be in your vagina, and those are only like 5 or so inches long--you can get it!

edit: vaginas vary in size, lol. sorry, could be much longer, but still, not out of the league of finding it in there even if it's 10 inches instead of 5. Sorry, if I'm being graphic

I am sure everything is fine but I agree with the other bee's, a dr visit should be very near in the future. Also feeling around in there yourself may provide benificial as mentioned before.

@KM - I laughed really hard at that!!! A spoon or something? Man that is great, good call!

I am a doctor -- so believe me when I say that you need to see one IMMEDIATELY.  If you can't get an appointment with your OB within the next 24 hours, please just go to an ER. There will be an ER physician or an OB on call who will be able to help.  You can get very sick from this: anything from a local infection to septic shock.

More reassurance that you're not the only one to have this happen: My roommate my freshman year of college came out of our bathroom one day and was like, "I just started my period a few hours ago, and when I took my tampon out just now [the first one she'd used that month], another one fell out after it! I must have forgotten about it all month!"

I was pretty grossed out, but she thought it was hilarious.

This has happened to a family member of mine... don't freak out! Just see the doctor tomorrow and he will manually extract it with some tools. You will be just fine.
