I want to choose bridesmaids dresses my girls will wear again, but is this in vain? Have you ever really re-worn a bridesmaid dress?
I haven't, only because I've never been a bridesmaid. However, I'm quite sure that the MOHs at both my weddings wore their dresses again. In each instance, there were no other female attendants to match, so I just told them to find a dress that they looked good in.
I wore one once out to a fancy dinner. My husband really liked the dress on me, and although I was just eh about it, I figured if he liked it, I'd wear it :)
Honestly....nope. Mainly b/c they were in colors I normally wouldn't wear in my every day life. I am the MOH in my sister's wedding and the dress is a simple yet elegant, floor length, black gown. I am certain I will wear that again.
I've never been able to wear one again. That being said, I'm hoping my bridesmaids will actually be able to pull out their outfits again. We are having a casual/vintage wedding, and the bridesmaids will be wearing black pencil skirts of their choice with a white chic/elegant white top of their choice. I sent them these pictures as inspiration. They have done a really great job at picking out outfits so far!
Yes! But the bride only picked out the color and the length of the dress so I picked out a dress which I knew I would wear again. One of my other BM dresses is hanging in the back of my closet, never to be seen again.
I've only been a BM once, and while the dress is lovely, I seriously doubt I'll ever wear it again, purely because it feels so "Bridesmaidy" to me. I can't imagine an occasion where I'll be requiring a dress like that.
no personally...
But I picked these http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Short-Charmeuse-Dress-with-Ruched-Waist-and-Pockets-83707_Bridal-Party-Features-Most-Popular-Bridesmaids
in lilic hoping my girls can re-wear them. I would totally rock the dress to a cocktail party personally..
I've been a bridesmaid twice and both dresses were in pastel colors (light blue and baby pink) and floor length. Both are at a Goodwill somewhere.
Sadly not, but all of the dresses have been floor-length. If they were tea-length, I'd be more likely to rewear. Good luck!
I did. I was in HS and liked dressing like a hippie, so I re-wore a dress from a renaissance wedding. It was made just for me by a seamstress. It was amazing!
@jamiemichelle: My sister actually is wearing that dress for her friends wedding, and she actually liked it so much she wore it before the wedding. I think hers was in lapis.
I have actually borrowed friends' BM dresses to wear to other weddings. I think the key is short and not a typical bridesmaid-y material, like satin.
I hope my BM's can wear their dresses again, but if not, I understand :-)
My crazy sister (MOH) and brother...

My bridesmaids are wearing ann taylor bridesmaids dresses. I'm pretty sure they'll be able to wear them again. My maid of honor has said she actually plans on wearing the dress again a month later as a guest at someone else's formal wedding.
My maid of honor picked her own dress, and it's a classic J. Crew design that I think/know she'll wear again.
I've only been in one wedding, and the bride picked the dress. It was a color and cut that I wouldn't wear again because it wasn't flattering at all.
nope! i have 4 dresses just sitting in the closet.
i am however letting my bm's reuse the dresses we bought for our friends wedding last year so they will get to wear them again... as bm's. does that count? =) i'm not that picky, the dresses look good and are the right color, so why not save them some $.
yes for a school assignment it was extra credit if you dressed up for it my presentation was on the tower of london *i'm in tourism we do strange stuff*
i wore it as anne bolyn very funny
I have a J Crew dress I've worn like four times after the wedding. The other two just scream BRIDESMAID to me and thus I cannot wear them again..
Nope.
And it's funny because all I ever heard was "oh and it's so great because you'll be able to wear it again!" when the whole time I was thinking "yeah right!"
Not a huge deal, I was able to donate a dress in the past, so perhaps someone was able to wear it. I'm planning on either selling or upcycling the others I have, as they are definitely not something I would ever be able to wear again, unless I just so happened to be in a wedding party requiring that colour/style of dress. (not very likely).
Total waste.
The only wedding I've been in we bought black cocktail dresses, which I have worn again as part of a Halloween costume (I was Audrey Hepburn, not something crazy). I think people think you can wear them when you go to all sorts of fancy parties, but really, who does that?
I've never rewore the bridesmaid dress that I wore at a friend's wedding, but I think my girls will definately be able to. They are wearing this Alfred Sung dress in black and will have it shortened to above the knee.
I've only worn 1 out of the 3 so far, and it was the dress that was not bought from a "BM" section. The last wedding I was in, we wore dresses from the J.Crew line so maybe I'll wear it again by toning it down with a cardigan?
Yea defiantly not. I think if you want ur BMs to wear it again it really cant be a bridesmaid dress bc thats exactly what it is.... A BRIDESMAID DRESS.
My BM wanted to wear the dresses I picked to other weddings before mine, so I am happy I picked a good one.
I've only been a bridesmaid once and it was for my brothers wedding...and let's just say I didn't even want to wear it then. My sis-in-law picked them out without even asking us what we thought and I guess she found them at a bargain because she paid for them...which was really nice. But it would've been nicer if she would have considered that a petite size doesn't fit well on someone's who is 5'11.
Nope. I've been a bridesmaid 8 times. Yes, that's right. 8 times.
I never re-wore any of the dresses. I donated them to a theatre I was working at - for the costume shop. I think they've been used over the years. :-)
I was concerned about this until my MOH (love her!) told me to stop worrying about it. I told them "blue dress, cocktail length" and they picked out what they wanted (I was extremely budget conscious and didn't want to burden them with an expensive dress they didn't care for, and I figured they would be able to pick a dress that looked good and was their style better than me). My MOH said she keeps her BM dresses and some she's worn again, others not but she's had a great time in all of them!
I've been in 4, never worn any of the dresses again. But 2 are very bridesmaidy, one is very not-my-style and the last is bright orange.
no. one is too bridesmaidy, and the other is too fancy. i had my girls pick out their own dresses in hopes that they'll be worn again.
I think the biggest thing is having a fabric that doesn't look like a BM dress and one that you could shorten (if its not already short).
My sister just cut her BM dress off and wore it to another wedding last night. Hopefully she'll send me pictures today. This was the original dress.

Yes, I have. I was my MOH's MOH last year and I was the only attendant on her side, so I got to choose a dress that I liked at that suited me 100%. The colour works well any time of the year, so it's great for Christmas/New Year's parties and also works for other weddings without screaming "this is a bridesmaid dress!"
This is the dress my SIL picked out for her Vegas wedding. I wore it again to another wedding a few months later. It's a flattering style and a good color on me so I will deifnitely wear it again.
I sold another bridesmaid dress on ebay, and another is sitting in my Nana's attic. The dresses for my wedding are black and floor-length so hopefully they can wear them again someday, but at least I hope they sell them and recoup some of the cost.
I've only been a bridesmaid once, and there is no way I would wear that floor length eggplant number again. Again, if it was shorter and a more wearable color (black, silver, maybe even chocolate brown), I may have been able to.
However, the bride's sister was quite a bit younger than us, and was able to wear it to her senior prom the next year - Ha!
Yes, but only 1 because it was a JCrew dress. I wore it to another wedding, and am planning on wearing it again when we get legally married at the court house. That being said, there are plenty of b-maid dresses that I've gotten rid of immediately following the wedding. It really depends on the dress. Some are made just to be bridesmaid dresses.
I've been a bridesmaid 2 times and both dresses I've never worn again.
No. The dress I had to wear was a DB floor-length heavy polyester number, immediately recognizable because of its style and not the most flattering shape. Even shortened people would know it was a BM dress, so it sits in my closet collecting dust until I donate it.
I've been in a few weddings and I've never worn the dress again. I'm one of the few people I know who actually has use for dressy dresses - DH is in the military and we have a Summer Ball and Christmas Ball every year. On the other hand I have re-worn my long black senior prom dress for years...I graduated in 1995 and I've worn it in the past year or two!
I've reworn one dress to a formal x-mas party. But I picked that one out and it wasn't a bm dress. The second and third were never reworn, by me anyway, but all have been donated, so hopefully someone got some use out of them.
