@OfficeBride: yup... totally noticed the extremes. Also, when we started doing maintenance things around the house... we started to hear "it'll never end..." a lot.
@OfficeBride: I hear you! I also like the "welcome to poverty" comments!
@OfficeBride: Yes! Or the references that you'll never get to go out and do things because you'll be stuck every weekend cleaning the yard or doing maintenance.
Luckily we've only gotten the congratulations. Although my husband already owned before this one...
@OfficeBride:Yup, yup. If it is really "welcome to poverty," how can so many people have houses?
I'm guilty of saying both congrats and talking about how much work a house is. I was recently a first time homebuyer and never realized how much work and time is involved; I'm trying to be helpful with my "real" comments, not hurtful.
Actually, the response we get is "so when are you having kids?"
Every time that my fiance and I get the "good luck with the mortgage" line, we always remind them that at least we're not paying thousands of dollars per month to rent a 1 br 1 ba apartment that we'll never own.
hahaha. I actually find it annoying when people who just bought a home try to tell ME the perils of home ownership. Hahha. I just want to say um...we have had our own home for 7 years now and you....6 months. I know stuff breaks and the work is never ending. But thanks for letting me know! :D
And yes, it's forever, because it's something you own not rent. It's call being an adult and having responsibilities! :)
Or (3) Now you get to see what being a homeowner is all about! haha
So like all the upkeep and maintenance.. Money that goes into a house.. gardening.. Mowing the lawn.. Definitely not cheap and easy!

..that when you've announced you've bought a house, there are two different kinds of responses?
(1) "Congratulations" (Which is great)
or (2) "Now you're stuck with a mortgage for life." (Um, thanks for 411)
LOL
