No pictures. And from your description, I think you're right about yellow gold.
Sounds alot like my ring....
Hearts on Fire Truly Bridal Leaf

Ooh!! I love how it tapers in toward the center stone! So many settings taper so that they become less narrow as they approach to the center stone-- it seems like it's hard to find one that does the opposite. Where did you find your ring?
I think this is about what you're describing.

When we picked out my engagement ring the local jeweler literally had huge catalogs of ring settings. He said he could order them to fit any diamond.
Go to a jeweller and see what they can do! Also bring the pictures of the rings you like, and they may be able to make them for you.
I love white gold. :)
Wow! Those pictures have everything but the vintage scrolling! I've been to five jewelry stores and looked at their settings, and I couldn't find any in the stores that have the antiquey scroll designs as well as the pave, tapered, cathedral settings... But you ladies are right, I should ask if they have any like this in their catalogs or if someone could design one like it... Thank you, bees...
Check Knox Jewelers (here) - they have some gorgeous vintagey looking ones, especially in their 'antique' section. (Looking quickly, the one they call "Charming" is kind of like what you want, I think. Link here.)
I drool over their stuff...

they have the most selection of vintage/antique looking settings. Hope you find something you like. I'm actually changing my setting too, and will go with this Erica Courtney Lauren ring, but will make a couple of changes to it, will make the halo more square to fit my asscher cut stone that i have and will make the band in bezel set stones, the same as the halo on top. My wedding band will be a milgrain bezel eternity band, see pics attached...the milgrain gives it a vintage look. Check out Erica's website, she's got gorgeous jewelery.

check out these websites too, hopefully you'll find some inspiration! :)

Go to a jeweler, not a jewelry store and they should be able to make exactly what you want if it'S not in one of their giant catalogues of settings. It sounds like you know so bring pictures and be prepared to have a conversation with an actual jeweler. My guy told us if it's not in his book, he can make it and the price would be about the same as a similar one in the book. They can also change the existing settings so maybe you can ask for an addition of scroll work if that'S what's missing. Until I went to a jeweler, I didn't realize what a big difference it is from a jewelry shop. I would recommend mine if you lived in the area.
OMG! I'm so glad I checked this post again. Those are awesome websites!!! I LOVE the Fay Cullen site. The idea to go to a jeweler is good too! Thank you, bees!
@dori120976: I used to check the Doyle and Doyle site so often when I first started looking! Couldn't believe I didn't know about it when I was still in NY

I've posted a couple of times about my engagement ring. Although I am currently giving it a try, and giving gold-colored jewelry a try, I am thinking that I will ultimately switch to a white gold setting when we choose our bands. The yellow gold looks SO beautiful on other people, and I think that going with yellow gold, rose gold, and other colors/materials really make your ring unique, since so many people have white gold/platinum/silver-colored rings. But I'm starting to think the silver color actually looks better with my skin tone, and I'm really missing the white gold/silver color. I know I could have my yellow gold ring rhodium-plated to look like white gold, but I don't think this setting would look as good in white gold, and I don't really like its knife-tipped edges (not sure if that's the right term for it).
So I've kind of been daydreaming about what kind of white gold setting I'd like to switch to, and I'm wondering if any of you have seen a ring like this or if you have any suggestions about where I might find one. I'm thinking it would be easier if I knew exactly what I would like in white gold and where we could get it before I tell my FI I really would like to make the switch when we get our wedding bands... :)
1.) It would be tapered at the top, so that it would get smaller towards the center diamond. I think that looks really elegant and makes the diamond stand out. *See Picture 1: http://www.whiteflash.com/engagement-rings/sleek-line-pave-diamond-engagement-ring_1184.htm
2.) It would be in the cathedral style, where the center stone is raised in a sort of triangle shape. It would have a vintage/antique-looking design. See Picture 2: http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=358
3.) It would be pave on the top part closest to the center diamond (where I'd like it to taper in), and then it would have that vintage/antique-looking design on the sides below that. See Picture 3: http://antiqueengagementrings.com/shopping/shopexd.asp?id=2366
4.) Also, my dream setting would accomodate the diamond I have now, which I think is approximately a half-carat (I could be wrong, though... I'm not sure).
P.S. Good news... My mother is going to contribute to the wedding after all! So we might be able to spend a little bit more on my ring than we might've thought... :) Still don't want to go overboard, though...
