Haven't heard back from a volunteer interview…kind of long, need advice

I think its a little strange that he wants someone that is not a certified law clerk, but then again, if you were a certified law clerk with all the credentials, would you be volunteering for a position that you could be getting paid for? Probably not. So my guess is that he has slim pickings, which is why he is open to bringing someone like you on-someone who seems excited and willing to work- despite your lack of experience. 

All of this being said, unlessly he explicitly said that you start on this date at this time (I can’t tell from this post if he mentioned the hours to you for informational purposes or to offer you the job), you probably didn’t get the job. In the future, I would recommend always following up with any interview with a phone call or email, especially if the time you were told you would be contacted has passed. 

If you’re still waffling about this, I would call him first thing in the am (9:00 or so) and just let him know you are following up and see what he says from there. If you don’t want the position, I would still call, follow up, an let him know you’d like to take your name out of the running because other responsibilities have come up. As long as you are professional and curteous it should be fine!
