We are getting married in Genesee County, New York at the same place we are having the wedding reception. Because FI is not religious at all and I haven’t stepped foot in a church in probably 13 years we are just having a family friend marry us. We had her go online and get ordained and we called the county to see what else we had to do in order so she can marry us. The woman I talked to said nothing else needs to be done and they don’t even need to see her certificate. This does not sound correct to me but they are the ones with experience in this, right? Why even require that they be ordained (it was free and took about 2 minutes so it wasn’t a big deal) I just want to make sure we are doing everything legally because when I get married I want to make sure I am married!
Does anyone have any experience with this? We are going to double check when we get our license on the 21st.
