Having a loose moissanite set?

My SO and I have been looking at our E-ring options recently (my SO told me to do the research and then let him know what I liked). I already know that I want a moissanite, probably 6 mm (I have a size 5.5 finger). I would like to tell him to purchase a loose 6 mm round stone from moissaniteco.com as I have found a setting on a different site that I really like.

However, I know nothing about having loose stones set! Is there an average price that jewelers charge for setting a loose stone? Would it likely be more or less expensive to have my moissanite set if I do not buy the stone or setting from the jeweler doing the setting process? IS there a chance my moissy stone could fall out if I go to an inexperienced jeweler? Any insight at all would be much appreciated! :) I tried to search for similar posts but didn't find what I was looking for. Thanks so much!

zales set my stone for 150, I was quoted up to 300 at different jewlers so look around. its also a great place to bargain in your price if you find the prefect setting at a not so perfect price try to get them to include the setting fee with the price of the ring to make it a little easier to swallow

Also, make sure your jeweller know it is moissy and is comfortable working with it.

@HellonHighHeels:  I am in your shoes, as well.  The set I have is from ShaneCo and they will set a stone from outside the company @ about $3 per carat point (1.00 carat = 100 points, .5 carat= 50 points, etc...).  That's kind of pricey but we're hoping to work around that a little.  Check with your setting's jeweler before comitting to a place to set the stone.  Some companies will void your warranty if you let another company work on your ring...and that might not be in your best interest.

I had my moissy set at Excel Diamonds for no additional charge. Most jewelers probably would charge a small fee for setting a stone, and it should be the same price as it would be for a diamond.
