I have been on mirena for 4.5 years with little to no problems and no period for 4 years. The only problem I had was in 2012 when I had vaginitis from the mirena.
Well as of last week I started getting TERRIBLE cramps. The equivlent to when I was in labor with my son (beginning stage) I rolled around my bed in tears. Today I went to check my mirena strings and found them but realized they seemed a little longer than normal, and the inside of my vagina seemed very inflamed. (I AM SO SORRY FOR THE TMI.) I do not have insurance right now and I am trying to figure out if I should go to the hospital and get checked out or wait it out and see if it goes away. Has anyone else had similar problems?

I would definitely get it checked out asap. I don’t have mirena, but it sounds like yours moved or something. I recommend seeing a doctor– I’m sure it’s an easy fix for a professional, but it would be terrible to wait for it to fix itself and cause more problems.

Waitingbee57: that sounds potentially pretty dangerous. You should get checked out ASAP. The hospital is going to be the most expensive option. Is there a Planned Parenthood you could go to? Or your normal OB/GYN?

Waitingbee57: get it checked out as soon as you can. Even without insurance, an easy fix and trip to the clinic now may prevent an er trip/expense in the future.

I am going to call Gyno in the morning and see what we can do. It has been a bad last few days.

Waitingbee57: Go to planned parenthood ASAP!! They will work with you with a rate. You do NOT want to mess you with your reproductive health!! Please go see a doctor!

Waitingbee57: It sounds like your Mirena might have migrated out of its normal place at the top of the uterus. Please, please get in to see a doctor tomorrow- Planned Parenthood is really great with sliding scale payments!
