Hey ladies… I’m getting married next September and I’ve just moved up to south Yorkshire with my fiancé.
I’m originally from Kent and I haven’t made a huge amount of close friends… At least ones I can share the personal experience of buying a wedding dress. I’m a plus sized bride so I’m also having to deal with the anxiety of being laughed at!!
I went into a bridal shop a few weeks ago and I was told that they didn’t think they would have anything for someone like me.
I’m looking for a tuille/matt rouched satin with a bit of sparkle and something which would flatter my tum. I was hoping some of you guys would post some ideas to help me get started… I want to accentuate my waist and I want a corset back and a train.
Let me know what you think lovely ladies and help me plan the happiest day of my life!!

i have been trawling this site for months but felt i had to join after reading your post…am in a similar situation, except I moved away from rotherham to Spain! It is weird looking at planning when all your Bessie’s are only available on Skype! 🙁 so I sort of get where you are coming from on this!
On a personal note, I bet I can guess a few bridal shops around s yorks where you would get the response you did, I am sorry you had this experience and please believe me when I say not all Yorkshire folk are like this! I actually came back over to find my dress as the choice over here is somewhat limited. I went to a couple of really lovely places, where I know they catered for plus size also Cos there were people being fitted when I was having my appointment. it’s bliss in Doncaster is good, they also have a shop in rotherham somewhere I think, also I have heard good things about blushes in Sheffield on London road. Also there is Georgian house bridal, in Doncaster, where I ended up buying my dress from! I can’t help with the type of dress you want, mine is slim a line, but Good luck with your search, I hope you have a better experience than the first shop!

@Geminspain: bless you! It’s nice to know I’m not the only one who is having to plan over Skype!! I will definitely give the shops you have mentioned a go.. Which dress did you go for in the end? I’ve been looking at some today and found alyssandra by Maggie s which is beautiful. I also like the t800 by Phoenix gowns but my favourite so far is Noelle by Maggie s… Which isn’t actually what I thought I would like!
I don’t want anything too… “pouffy” but I also can’t wear fishtails! Definitely going more elegant than princess!
I get cross that people try to make you feel bad just because you don’t fit into a size 10! Regardless of size, it’s your day and you shouldn’t have to hide yourself.

@TheFutureMrsMayo: I’m so sorry that someone could even find the audacity to say such cruel words…what I would suggest is calling in advance to see if they have a decent plus sized selection prior to goin. That’s what I did (size 16) and I saved myself some embarrassment that way!
