My FI and I are planning to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon.  Does any one have an suggestion on what Island to stay on?  We are looking to mostly relax on the beach and sight see.

We are considering a "all inclusive" package, Does anyone have a recommendation for that?

Any other things we need to consider?

If you want to be beach bums, Oahu and Maui will probably make the best deals. I lived on teh Big Island and LOVED IT.  Between there and Kauai, there are the best hikes and climbing and cliff jumping adventures... but not the best for just being beach bums.  If you want specifcs, feel free to PM me.  No matter which Island you pick - get the Ultimate Guide to:  blue book.  Its a series of blue covered books that even the locals use and there is one for each island.  HIGHLY recommened!!!

Defintely go Maui. Oahu was way too urban for my husband and me. We actually may be moving there! PM me if you want more info!

FI and I are honeymooning in Oahu.  We have both been there before and both wanted to go back there.  Plan is to spend as much time on the beach being lazy, but then we have our pick of what we want to do at night.  And so many things to visit and site see!  Have been to most of the islands and found Maui a bit too touristic for me.  But that's just my opinion, everyone has different tastes!!  We are staying at the Outrigger on the beach at Waikiki!!  Can't wait!!!

We went to Kauai last September and absolutely loved it.  It was the perfect mix of sightseeing, relaxing at the beach, and exploring (hiking, kayaing, etc.).  I haven't been to the other islands, but understand that Maui is quite developed (lots of large resorts) and touristy where Oahu is more urban.  I don't think you can go wrong with any of the islands, but I would seriously consider Kauai if you're up for something a little less prepackaged.

Oahu & Maui have the most 'all inclusive' packages.  Maui is considered the most 'haole' (caucasion) of the islands, while the big island and Kauai are more local.  Oahu has tons of packages, the famous sites of Waikiki & Diamond Head, and it's a great place to come visit.  However, Honolulu IS a city of close to a million people, so you will have to deal with 'city' things, but there are many places on the Windward side and north shore that are remote.  Maui's reputation is more touristy, and I know their traffic is really bad.  Then again, it's bad here; it's bad just about everywhere.  Figure out what you most want-luxury hotels, more private beaches, all inclusive sets, and you will find a ton of options on every island.  good luck sarahanne

We're also thinking of Hawaii. We'd like to do 2 weeks and 2 islands. We want a mix of beach time and hiking/adventure time. Any thoughts on what islands would be best? Right now I am considering Maui and Kauai but I'm not sure. THanks!

I've visited the Big Island, Oahu and Maui, and I'd say that Oahu and Maui were my faves.  They both have a good mix of city and nature.  I'd second the suggestion of the blue "Revealed" books - I bought them for each of the islands and they are invaluable!!  Whichever island you choose, you can't go wrong.

Kauai is awesome and I totally recommend it!  Kauai is really beautiful and less "developped" than the other islands.  There's really a local, small town feeling to the island.  Plus, people just seemed friendlier to me (I also spent time on the Big Island and Maui).  Things you must do include hiking/driving/taking the tour bus to the top of the mountains, cliff jumping, and visiting all the historic sites (my favorites were an authentic Hawaiian village, a pineapple plantation, and a fort).

I realized I never linked my blog post to this thread. Check out our favorites in Maui here: http://crosscountrywed.blogspot.com/2009/05/ccw-city-favorites-maui.html

My fiance and I are also planning to spend our Honeymoon on two islands in Hawaii.  What is the best way to book?  Would anyone recommend Liberty Travel?  I usually make all of my travel arangements on line and don't think that would be best for my honeymoon.

FH & I went on vacation to Oahu & Maui last year.  Being from NYC we liked Oahu & appreciated the big city aspect of Honolulu, but it was great to get away to Maui.  We actually rented a condo in Kanapaali via Craigslist!  It was fantastic.  When we got there we went to the market & bought a ton of fresh fruit and such so that we didn't have to go out for breakfast every day.  Here are a few things we loved in Maui:

Mama's Fish House.  Holy awesome deliciousness.  Spendy and worth it.

    Road to Hana.

    Snorkeling cruise out to Molokini.

    Hiking at Mt. Haaleakala.

Maui's cool because one minute you're on the beach, next you're in the desert, then you can be on the top of the Mt wishing you had a coat!  :)

If we go back though, we'll want to see other islands.  I've heard (both here and elsewhere) amazing things about Kuwai.

    Good luck!
