You know when I heard it on the radio this morning my first thought about Hawaii and the planes being grounded was all the people on their way to their honeymoon there this weekend or the people trying to come back home. So sad. Im praying!!
Yes, I had thoughts such as you two about weddings and honeymoons.
Is she?? I can't remember. I'm sure she'll have been evacuated inland. A friend of mine in grad school is there on spring break and she's already posted pics on FB of the bus that evacuated them inland at like 1 am Hawaii time. She seems to be doing fine (though the tsunami hasn't hit yet).
everyones okay here.
i'd weigh our hearts heavily over toward Japan :(
The Japanese footage is SO scary. We lived there when I was younger and my dad was in the Air Force and I remember being freaked out by like a 3.0 earthquake that hit one night. I can't even IMAGINE an 8.9 followed by a tsunami.
@His Lil SantosGirl: definitely. The death toll keeps rising and it will only continue to do so. Ive been in an earthquake before (not even close to a 8.9) and its incredibly scary. The aftershocks they are feeling are HUGE - the highest being measured at 7.1!
Earthquakes are the freakiest things in the world because there's NOTHING like them and you just have no idea what's going on and NO warning.
@ohheavenlyday: they really are. We used to live in California and the earthquake we experienced was 6.8. I remember having earthquake drills in school but even if you try to prepare you have no idea when it is coming! It affects so many things too - water, power, food supply, shelter, safety. I cant imagine being in Japan right now.
My heart goes out to all in japan and in hawaii, let hope the wave doesn't hit the pacific coast! A friend of mine from elementary school is stationed in Japan now, i learned about the earth quake from her facebook updates before i heard it on the news, So far she is okay but this is scary!
@PitBulLover: Yeah, Hawaii. I was able to talk to her and she is fine! I hope that everyone else is OK also.
Just popping in to say we are fine! Scary morning but we are totally ok. Our hotel is on a tall bluff overlooking the ocean so we did not get evacuated. More later when we get home!
@ohheavenlyday: You are too sweet for thinking of me and my fellow Hawaii Beach brides - Thank you!
I've checked in with our wedding locale and good news - no damage! *whew* they are bracing for tourism to take a big hit over the next few weeks/months since japanese tourists account for 18% of hawaii's tourism revenue - that's $2 billion dollars!
@CorgiTales: glad to hear you and your mister are ok....and i hope your honeymoon was awesome otherwise. :)
lots of love,
Miss O.

The tsunami isn't going to hit Hawaii for close to another hour or so, but I've been thinking about all the couples who probably flew out there for their destination wedding on the beach like Miss Ostrich is planning. This must be so stressful for them on top of everything else! Who knows what condition the beaches will be in tomorrow, or roads, or anything.
Be safe, Hawaiian bees!
